Just figured id share my last hour because im laughing at myself now, but was fuming when it happened.

So I bought two new fish today, a springeri damsel and my second yellow coris (lost the first one in qt). Got them home, floated for a while, added some more pvc pieces and a bowl of sand to my qt. Added the damsel first.

Brought the coris into the bathroom in his bag and a small bowl of qt tank water. I drained the water out of the bag and let him slide into the bowl of qt water. Thats when he jumped out and went STRAIGHT DOWN THE DRAIN!!!

I was immediately cursing myself (loudly) and my wife said whats wrong. I popped my head out and told her what happened. She was thinking more clearly than me and said for me to take the trap apart. I was doubtful for some reason hed be in there. But was worth a shot.

I ran downstairs to grab a pipe wrench and she emptied under the sink. Grabbed a bowl and got the trap off and he slid right out into the bowl.

I got him in a bowl of qt water and released into the qt. Been about an hour now and hes swimming around just fine. So hopefully he pulls through and has a good final home in my tank instead of my cesspool.

But lesson learned and Im laughing at it now but what an idiot.

Wow!! That's one way to do a freshwater dip!!
;Hilarious

Oh I’m a much bigger idiot than that. A while back, I received a large order of fish. Followed my usual process of adding them to my QT tanks and then tossing the empty shipping bags into the slop sink for subsequent recycling. Forgot about the bags, but started to get a nasty smell. Turned out one fish had gotten stuck in a fold of one bag. Even though I use a flashlight to spot that, this time I missed it. Felt awful ..... what a moron!!!

Funny read, I can picture ME doing something like that. I'm glad you got it out, your going to love that fish! One of our favorites!

I’ve made that mistake over a floor drain and a small dottyback I didn’t remember was in the bucket... unfortunately I wasn’t as lucky :(

Glad your story ended better!

Well in a way im glad to hear im not the only one. I thought it was incredibly careless of me and that I was maybe doing it in a bad way...but gotta get them out of the bag somehow.

But stuff happens. Am determined to have a yellow fish in my tank. My 3.5 year old wants one so bad bc its her favorite color. Poor girl thought the last one was still in the qt tank in the office lol. So I had to get another one.

I wouldn't call that a mistake so much as a great save. I would NEVER have gotten the trap apart in time.

Hope he continues to do well! They are beautiful fish.

Were you able to retrieve it or was it a goner?
Fortunately I was able to grab him....in between the disposal blades swimming in food water :( Still in my tank over a year later though lol.
