Excellent question: Space Monsters were added 2010.12.28. All others have been in the tank for months. The Space Monsters have been coloring up since aquisition, but seem to have settled in the last week or so. If you like, I can repeat the flash shot in a bit? Just remind me please, I'll forget.

I feel that way about all kinds of polyps like sopranos. I think SM should cost more then them, so that would make sopranos worth $10 bucks...

just kidding.... no offense taken!! Although, FYI I really didn't mean it in a stubborn way, in case that's what you perceived. Anyways...my point was that the description was rather vague to clearly say it’s one species or the other, b/c color growth, rate and death are just factors that can vary even within the same coral with just a change of light! Anyways now looking some pics put up I think that they might be dif. Sp. Subsp. Or whater but I to me the difference in the tentacles and # around the disk, was more of a clue, I wasn’t able to count them well but imo one had many more than the other and morphologically were a bit different. Let’s suppose they were the same species… I’m not saying they are but don’t you think it would be funny if we were just making all this fuss about whether to call, for example a black lab X and a black lab with a different tone of black Y? just a thought.

My Strawberry Wine I got from Jeremy soon after I got it:

I do Marvin, but Jeremy's are better with all the different lighting options, so we'll leave it at that. In my tank the SW has more "sparkle" to the center than the SM does. Both have exhibited some change in color variation since I acquired them. Both have lost some of their black coloration, and the SM tentacles have lost more of their green.
I agree with your estimation of those two, but since the SW also tend to melt, I would value them about the same as sopranos
NP, like yourself, not trying to be stubborn or rude so I hope it didn't come across that way. Just get a little weary of seeing threads and arguments by people who don't have both about how they are the same polyp just under different lights
. There are enough people that have both in the hobby that the debate should have been settled long ago. Perhaps Jeremy can post his side-by-side shots on the Website like he has done with some others, and that will end the debate.I do however agree with you totally. I wouldn't be surprised at all to discover that they are in fact the same species; I think that perhaps you and many others would be truly surprised to learn exactly how many of the different morphs that are currently being sold and traded throughout the hobby are in fact the exact same species. One of the papers released by Reimer makes it clear that their among the zoas there appears to be a very limited number of true species, with tons of color variations or morphs; in other words they are indeed a black lab X and a black lab Y. Tomorrow when I have access to my work computer I'll post up a link to the article when I get a chance.

Side by side comparison
Here's my side by side comparison and I would agree they look very similar but the skirts and the color is a little different. The spacemonster is a deeper purple with a more pronounced skirt. The strawberry wine is more pink in coloration.

I have them both and space monster is bigger polyp and color is darker pink to light purple vs. lighter pink in Strawberry wine. obviously I just own my frag of space monster not so long ago, so I can't commenting on how fast is it's growth rate. The growth rate for my strawberry wine is not slow for sure.
Nice polyp there Kevin. Neither Space Monster or Strawberry Wines are a PE, so there is a clear distinction between them and Red Velvet. Also IMO, the skirts are the wrong color - those appear more aqua blue while both SM and SW are definitely green.
