I have a 4 bulb t5 fixture ,which bulbs would be good for growing sps corals ?

I use ATI bulbs. 2 blue+ 1 coral+ and 1 Aqua blue special.

You could debate this for days and most do.

Pretty much any combo will work. Most of the difference will be visual.

The most common combo in ATI is 2 c+ 2 b+And it grows corals like weeds.
3b+ and 1 c+ will grow coral like weeds too just bluer.

The Aqua will just add a slight tinge of green.

What about actinic from ati?

Also a good choice. Favors the uv , violet, and blue. Kinda royal blue. It's and old school preference.

Defiantly head over to the ATI site. When you look at the specs on the tubes you can see where the peaks are. That is the indication of the visual color.

Growth and color are good. I added a Reefbrite to give a little pop.

With so many choices, which bulb gives off the best peak if they can all grow coral ,even sps?

THtere is no best imo.
We do know coral like more blue color.
More blue than sun. So more than 5700k.
That's really it.

Keep in mid sps is a mis nomer.
Corals for the most part grow in less than 50 feet of water.
But the deepest growing coral is a leptoseris
An sps. At 100+

It's just the acros that have been found to like higher light. And even that is bieng challenged now.

Do you guys think there is a t5 that gives coral specifically sps better coloration ?

With only being able to choose 4 bulbs I agree 2 blue plus and 2 coral plus would give you the best growth and color combo but if you are used to, or prefer the led look it will be on the white side. If you were to do that I'd plan on supplementing some form of blue led strip for evening viewing. There is no right answer.

I've noticed some corals look washed out under some t5 lighting and was wondering which bulb wouldn't do that..

Its probably not the bulbs. It's how intense compared to nutrient levels I'd imagine. Also the more white generally gives growth as blue gives better color. The aqua blue special is more white then the Coral plus.

So white light is better for the coral health ? Can you have high nutrients and good coloration ?

Well any of the reputable bulbs will be good for the corals health. You NEED nutrients to get good coloration. The bulb gives the appearance that we like.

Downstairs I have 3 blue plus
2 coral plus
Purple
Actinic
Aqua blue special

I was trying to hit spectrum and blend for all the way around. It's ok visually but it still needs blue LEDs to give it that florescent pop. It really depends on what you like to look at. On my work tank I have full spectrum leds with 2 retrofit coral plus for extra intensity while still getting the pop. Upstairs I have an all led lit tank. Visually I like that the best but I have not had the success in that tank that I have with the other two.

With acros it's very hard to have high. Nutrints and great color.

Have any of you used miracle mud ? Is it something to invest in ?
