SPS RTN due to bacteria vibrio alginolyticus

For past two months i getting some random RTN in SPS

Here my system info

Tank vol is 2000 liters

Using RO SSS 5000 INT skimmer , No gfo or carbon running.

Running on Macro algae chaetomorpha.

First 4 months back i wrongly over dosed 200ml of seachem flourish nitrogen and then i calculated it wont even rise my no3 level to 2ppm.

That time i lost my red dragon frag that only loss i had that time.

For past 1 month i seen some random RTN even in one my colony mostly RTN happens at night and i thought some parameters issue,so i checked all my parameters on both test kit.

salinity - 1.026 checked in both refractrometer
Ph - 8.05 to 8.30
Alk - 8.2 to 8.5 tested in both hanna and salifert
calcium - 390ppm in salifert
mg - 1380ppm in salifert
No3 - 1ppm in salifert
Po4 - zero in hanna and in salifer

Not made any big changes in tank alk always stable at 8.2 to 8.5 mostly and 2 months back i had cyano issue and in some time cyano gone,when had zero no3 i started to dose flourish and that time due to dosing pump issue i dosed nearly 200ml and for my water vol it may rise no3 upto 1 ppm only .

So iam sure this RTN are not due to parameters and i feel after added few new colony of sps then only started just my guess.

is RTN is possible due to bacterial infection ?

Another theory may be due to some heavy metal contamination or copper , so i check the DIY chiller and it fine and i still need to check my return and skimmer pump for rust,but i feel it wont be the issue and i will check and update you.

So what i done is taken few sample of RTN corals and given to lab for culturing.

meantime i seen some article about bacterial infection and started antibiotic dips ( used half tablet of chloramphenicol in 2.5 liters of water for 3-4min dip )

This is the day one dipping on chloramphenicol in 2.5 liters of water for 3-4min dip and i know 2-3min dip wont help much and antibiotic takes some time to act.

This time used Cefuroxime and increased the dip time to 10min


Also today i got the lab results and i found two growth in it one is vibrio alginolyticus and othe is sphingomonas paucimobilis

It talk about
Vibrio alginolyticus and White Syndrome in the South China Sea

And i dont know vibrio alginolyticus and sphingomonas paucimobilis normally exit in our reef tank or it there due to external factor and how much damage they can do to corals ?




Hope other reefers can give more information about there pattern of RTN.

I think they are very common in saltwater aquariums and mostly wouldnt destroy healthy acropora. There is probably another inciting factor that allows these pathogens to gain a foothold. Oh also if you are an alcoholic or diabetic you better make sure and wear gloves:/
 
Why would you Dose Seachem Flourish?

It is for Freshwater Plants and has Heavy Metals in it including Copper.
 
I think they are very common in saltwater aquariums and mostly wouldnt destroy healthy acropora. There is probably another inciting factor that allows these pathogens to gain a foothold. Oh also if you are an alcoholic or diabetic you better make sure and wear gloves:/
Lol what do you mean by that? I mean the alcoholic/ diabetic comment.
 
Yajur, you're nutrient levels are too low for sps. Raise your NO3 and PO4. Zero phosphates is no good. I keep happy, healthy acros with nitrates at between 2 and 5 ppm and phosphates between .25 and .5 ppm. I aim for a ratio of 16 to 1, N to P, which is the Redfield Ratio. From Wikipedia: Redfield ratio or Redfield stoichiometry is the atomic ratio of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus found in phytoplankton and throughout the deep oceans. This empirically developed stoichiometric ratio is found to be C:N:P. = 106:16:1...However, looking at the composition of individual species of phytoplankton grown under nitrogen or phosphorus limitation shows that this nitrogen to phosphorus ratio can vary anywhere from 6:1 to 60:1.

But will phosphate of 0.25 ppm will be good for sps?

A trace to .02 ppm of phosphates and nitrates 2 to 5 ppm, or around there and use judgement if the system is good. Test and that were your Po4 and No3 are best for your system. So yes your Po4's and No3 are low. Myself I would feed more to the fish and possibly add a fish or live stock, so that the live creates more waste which creates more No3's, Frozen food create the phosphates and you need a trace to .02 ppm to create a positive reaction with nitrates and some other chemical reactor that make corals grow. Finding that right balance for your system is the key.
 
Bacteria infections are the cause of RTN.
doxycycline at 10 mg?per gallon for 24 hours in a QT tank to arrest some tissue sloughing.

liver disease will predispose to a worse infection it is an independent risk factor for a much worse prognosis..
 
Yes, but not all alcoholics automatically have liver disease. Not that it's important, I was just saying that both classes are straight up immunocompromised.

RIGHT haha but that doesnt negate the fact that an alcoholic has a much greater risk of liver disease than the general population and thus a greater individual risk of severe vibrio septicemia regardless of whether or not he actually has liver disease or an immunocompromised state. Both liver disease and immunocompromised state are independent risk factors... Okay for example a person with chronic HCV(liver disease) also shouldnt be exposed to vibrio even if he has a robust immune system because he will still have a 200 fold increased risk of severe septicemia vs general population.
