130 gallon mixed reef. Salinity is 1.028 (refractometer), use reef crystals,
Alk 9.5 Red Sea (stable via Kali in ato)
Ca 500 Red Sea (stable via kalk in ato)
Mg 1250-1300 Red Sea
No3 <2 ppm Red Sea
Po4 (no idea since my reagents just expired.

Plenty of chaeto growth and acros are growing and colored up nicely.

BUT. Every time I clean the glass of an algae haze (couple times a week maybe), several acro colonies start sliming, bad. And if I feed Formula 2, I get the same effect. Only tenius and austera species are affected. Millie's, rosario, hyachinthus, no other SPS are affected. In the 5 plus years this tank has been running, not even the aforementioned species did this until a few weeks ago. Nothing has changed. Anybody else notice this? Probably going to stop all flow when I clean algae off the glass from now on, but wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this sensitivity.

The only reaction I get from mine when I clean the glass is that they go in to feed mode and start sending out their sweepers.

Mine slime when I siphon water out for a water change, and stir up the sand a bit. But I'm pretty new so I'm not sure how typical any of this is. No noticable slime when I clean the glass though.

Are you sticking your arm in the tank when cleaning the glass?

Interesting thought. I'm going to keep my arm completely out of the water next time I do a water change. Thanks!

Whatever residue from oils/soap that's on your skin can irritate corals. My duncan will start shriveling if I dip a finger in the tank sometimes.

Nope, not dunking my arm in there I just use a magnetic scraper. I'll snap a pic the next time I scrape (probably tomorrow or Wednesday). Grr, it's frustrating. Especially since one of the tenius that slimes is a HW colony ;Bored

Could it be that the type of algae you are scraping is something nasty like dinos?

That's a good question. I kinda doubt it though since the snails still leave lots of munch trails on the glass and I see my tangs nibbling from time to time on it.

Maybe an issue with your algae scraper, maybe the magnet is cracked?

Unfortunately, even if the algae scraper is cracked, I still can't explain why I get slimers when I feed Formula 2

True, very odd.

Everyone going to have a different visual interpretation pictures would add value to assessment

Sure it is fine, but it is not ideal. It is also fine that corals slime with a potential feeding response, but also not ideal.

What makes you say that 1.028 is not ideal? Based on what?
