SPS sliming when cleaning glass

I have tested water all through the Caribbean and pacific coast of central America and every place I sampled water it was 1.028.
Not sure why this is not the norm?
I even believe I read that Adam (battlecorals) has kept as high as 1.030 as a target

Dosent make it a norm.
Correct me if im wrong but high salinity water is more prone to chemistry flucuations. High temp is more prone to bacterial growth... mix the two...

Highly alk, high ca, high mg also promote and enhance SPs growth as shown on BRStv. We run our systems pretty out of whack with NSW. A .002 difference in Sg isn’t causing these issues.

I’ve noticed that when I clean the glass sometimes my sps will get more PE as it loosens up and puts in the water something they consider food. Sometimes when I feed the sps they also slime up not in distress but in an effort to catch more foo d.

1.028 is an outlier. It can work, but it needs to be labeled as such. Not everybody wants to work in the outlier zone for their tanks. The coral sea was 35 ppt, so was Key West. We don't have much in our tanks from the Pacific coast of South/Central America or most of the Caribbean... the temps are often in the high 60s here, and it would be just as bad of an idea to do this too... none of the SPS that you are keeping are from this area.

It is true that one parameter that is offcenter a bit is not likely any issue, but a few can be... so why not make sure that none of them are just in case one of them drifts there over time.

Battlecorals, probably one of the top 5 SPS growers out there uses 1.029.

What does this have to do with anything? He is a good vendor, but not a top-5 grower. There is no vendor that is as good as the top 25 or 50 hobbyists (probably way more)... different goals, so this is no slight or anything... a hobbyist can pay more attention to less stock.

It seems that you don't know what an outlier is. One of anything is not a norm, it is an outlier. Even if somebody wanted to be like Adam, you would be an outlier too... but you better do everything like he does with the massive amount of live rock, the Metal Halides blended with Photon V2s at 100% on all channels and everything. Just picking and choosing which things to mimic from a vendor or any system is not a good idea.
