When the polyps mature, they turn green.

Thats probably why the outsides of that coral are almost always red.

How high up does this coral have to be in an sps tank (250w HQI) to keep colors?

This is an amazing coral. Im always surprised watching the colors change as it grows. The orange polyps on mine are my favorite. I have this one and a superman monti in differant depths and they both grow just as fast. The rainbow is high and the superman is low

It also depends on the lighting it gets. The less light, the more prone they are to staying orange.

You also have to be careful with this (and other montiporas) as it can overgrow most other corals. The only ones I have found that resist them are mushrooms.

Why did it turn that color? I just picked up a frag of it and a superman Monti and mystic sunset. The rainbow being me favorite!!!

Beautiful!

So how high up the tank should these be for best color with radions?

Even though I don't have an SPS tank, I absolutely have always loved the rainbow Monti, really nice specimen too have;)
