Gfo is off for 2 months. Since it started the problems.thats the most accurate alk kit i know of.
ca will precipitate on it's own. alk will also drop naturally.
id leave mag alone for now
gfo needs to be offline minimum 3 days. then test.

Yep! Im very grateful for all the help here. Since I cant get anything wrong with the water, Im doing bigger water changes, carbon out, I raised the lights, I cut 1 hour of lights, gfo is off, and im checking parameters a least 3 times a week. I stop dosing amino acid as well. You've got plenty of input here and from the LFS I'm sure but you might consider the various coral species you have. Just a thought and I know there are countless mixed reefers with great success...but it's possible that there are some that don't play nice in the sandbox. I wouldn't go crazy on parameters etc. good water changes and deep breaths.
I use to dose a couple times a week. I stopped to see if anything would it change it. I will slowly change everything back to normal.Ime I haven't seen aminos make a weak piece stronger. But healthy pieces seem to benefit. Everything in moderation. [emoji6]
Full powerIs that 10-11hr photoperiod on a ramp up/down or full power for that duration?
Im doing bigger water changes
Better to keep them small and consistent, you don't want big changes especially as it relates to alk.
Would it be a good idea to do a water change with instant ocean salt? To lower my parameters faster.
You say this has been going on for a couple months, and you said you switched all the bulbs at the same time a couple months ago. I think you have your answer. Though I'd think they'd be recovering by now.
Is Instant Ocean the salt you normally use? If so, and you don't dose Mg, then I would expect Mg to be low, not 1440 ppm. 1100 ppm might be correct. Mix up a batch of fresh saltwater using RO/DI (you use RO/DI right?) and test calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. We should be able to tell which test kits are accurate as the values in each brand of salt are predictable.
I use to. Not anymore. Now I use red sea coral
A Triton test would take the question out of it. Take the sample for the Triton test, and then test your tank with your own test kits at the same time. Then compare the results when you get them.
I believe its 1440I'm not sure the Mg level in Red Sea Coral, sorry. I'm sure someone does.
