T5 can put out more light than halides. Where halides shines a bright spectrum down onto your reef, T5's "bathe" the corals in light. Good results can be achieved with both types of lighting. If just depends on your personal preference. But when you use T5's on an SPS dominated tank, you must use enough bulbs with high PAR in order to get the growth and color you're looking for. Hope that makes sense.

Veeeery nice Craig. Love those colors!

What kind of fixture do you have jerl77? Curious to know your tank dimensions, # of bulbs you're running, and your bulb combo. Perhaps we can help you diagnose what's going on with your SPS. Or if you just want to see some pics, that's cool too...lol

These are a few out of my tank...

Could it be that the coral's were shocked by too much light? I have heard this alot from people switching from mh to t-5's

so this will work good for me ?

That will look very white with 3 aquablue specials. I would at least switch out one aquablue with another blue+.

I would definitely switch out 1 aquablu special, that bulb config is gonna look like a FOWLR tank with that bulb config.I would switch it with a ATI Actinic

I agree, drop a AB special for another blue plus, I run a similar combo and love it. I get extremely nice coloration while still having enough par to grow acros and anything else about as fast as possible!

I continually see evidence that the T5 configurations can work. But I have used halides for over a decade and just cannot break away from them. Its like I smoked some Halide and now I just can’t get off of it. I would genuinely call it an addiction. What else do you have to do special to get good color. I am sure water quality and supplementation routines don’t change. But do you have to do anything out of the ordinary? Do you make blood sacrifices to the corals (jk)? It just seems counter intuitive that Acros will grow under T5s. I guess I am just way too old school. And I am aware of the PAR argument.
