So, as you can see in my pictures, my monti has grown to the point of shading to many of my corals. I was wondering if I could just frag the portions that are causing the most shading and place them right on top of the main colony. I know it’s going to kill whatever is underneath it but won’t it just keep on growing from the frags? Honestly, I was actually considering placing the frags upside down so that it would die and give me another place to put some coral. Any thoughts or has anyone else done this?

All opinions are appreciated :)

Frag and sell .
As frustrating as it is .
This is some of the biggest reward of reefing
I feel where you’re coming from. Problem is I think I’ve been inundating my poor lfs with montipora frags already. This stupid epidemic has completely frozen all frag swaps in my area. That’s why I was thinking about staking pieces on top of one another. I’m truly out of space for coral. I have an elegance that is over a foot in diameter and a bubble catching up. I’m hopefully upgrading to a bigger tank in the future but not anytime soon. My acros are growing into each other. It all goes back to "be careful what you wish for”. I hate to see the coral warfare that goes on. Imagine my surprise when I found out leptoseris and pavona have sweepers! Long ones too!

I was there a few years ago with playing monti growing and running out of room

reading through your reply . Acros growing and almost touching .
is there a rule for placing frags for how close to each to allow space for growth ?

can acros touch ?
I have a green pavona but never knew they had sweepers .
I have never been able to keep lepto ( after trying a jack o lantern and failed

They are growing and fusing into each other.

This last picture is my pavona in full sweeper glory. It puts my galaxea to shame as far as the density goes.
