Starting a saltwater tank

For a smaller tank like this a sump isn't needed but it is always a good idea. I am setting up a 28 gallon tank and am not going to use a sump. I am using a HOB filter rated for 55 gallons and another smaller one (not sure what it's rated for). I always go the route of more filtration.

Welcome to the forum and +1 on the marineland LEDs. If you ever get the bug to do any coral at all you will have to upgrade. T5's are probably the least expensive option with keeping it simple and are awesome lights!

Hello and welcome to r2r :welcome: Good advice given above. I agree with what has been said about the marineland lights, if you are eventually planning on doing corals you would be better doing t5s.

Welcome! Good luck with your tank! Remember when you get started, we love pics!

Oh yes! We love pictures. If we feel that pictures aren't posted in an appropriate amount of time we will hassle you :)

Welcome to r2r. I don't know if you mentioned this as I read your intro but did not read the rest. Were you planning on using the 29g for saltwater? I would recommend switching the 120g over and using the 29g for freshwater

Saltwater is a little harder to care for than fresh and the extra water volume will help
