I have an 18 gal qt that is set up and ready to start copper because some of my fish had ich.

That is the copper that i will be using and in the back of it says: use at 2.5 ppm copper, one fluid ounce to each 20 gallon.

Before i do this i just want to confirm so i can make sure i dnt overdose please. I plan on putting 25 ml using that blue capsule. So that'll be 2 in a half dosage with the cap.

1. Does that amount sound about right for my tank?

2. Can i put the 25ml dosage all at once in my qt or should i break it up and do 1 today and the rest tom. Ie. I would put 10 ml today and put the 15 ml tom.

You want to raise the copper level slowly enough to not shock any fish that might be sensitive to it. I took a week to bring mine up to therapeutic levels but I have a wrasse and an angel (notoriously sensitive to copper). I would still spread it out over a couple days at least, just in case. Remember to use your copper test kit to insure you have the right copper levels. You could dose the Qt with half the recommended dose, then with each water change raise the copper.

I know someone who is very well versed when it comes to using Copper Power. Let me see if I can't tag him for you. @vedros74

^^This. You're going to need an API copper test kit to measure Copper Power. 2.5 ppm is what you want to aim for.

I've had nothing but success with copper power. I have put powder blue, purple tang and numerous sensitive wrasses including potters through QT with it. I normally make sure they're all eating first but in an emergency I know that's not feasible. I usually take about a week to get up to full dosage starting with about 1/4 of recommended dosage and slowly increase every couple days while testing. It's a very gentle copper. I have a friend who put an Achilles and tamarin wrasse through QT with it. I use stability by seachum to maintain bacteria and ammonia badge

Good to hear!! Ahh ok so ill for sure stretch it out. So far from all the feedback i feel pretty ok. I will start today and see how it goes. How often were you using the stability in your qt? Thanks again!

I believe I dosed the stability every other day in the tank. I also put a small piece of live rock from my sump in the QT to help with bacteria and ran a protein skimmer because I like to feed heavy. I also kept some pvc fittings for the fish to hide. The small piece of rock didn't affect the copper absorption since it was so small. I think you will be pleased with the copper power. A very gentle and effective copper

So i started the copper tm today and dosed 2 and a quarter using the capsule. I waited a few hours and used the copper test kit to see how much it was and the color was so light it wasnt on the chart. Should i keep dosing until its at the recommended dosage tht the bottle says or wait a few days and use the test kit again? So far everyone seems to be doing ok.

I will for sure use the stability every so often now for sure! I actually have a few pvc pipes for them but no rocks. Im just hoping i use the copper power correctly.

So 1 weird thing tht happened over the weekend was... I left my tank satuday and everyone was great, i come back monday and my small niger trigger just straight up dissapeared on me. I looked everywhere for it n my tank is only 18 gal. I dnt think it jumped out bcuz the water level is not even close to the top smh. I did look on the floor n found nothing -_-. So strange!!!

I would just continue dosing slowly and observe until your kit reads correctly and make sure they're eating and you have some flow to keep the water aerated

^^^ agree

Did you find the trigger? I thought i lost my kole tang a few times, but it turns out he blends in really well with the inside of my mugs. It was late when you posted, maybe he found a place to lock in and sleep.

Unless the other trigger ate him, the niger trigger has to be somewhere.

I actually fed them this morning and a few of them ate. Ok i will continue to dose slowly. I figured i should add some more since the color was so clear. Thanks

No i didnt find my poor little trigger idk what happened. I fed the tank twice so far and he hasnt come out to eat so he is gone for sure. I thought so too maybe he found a place to sleep but he is no where to be found -_- and i looked around everywhere.

I thought about that bcuz the humu is such a pyscho but even tho my niger was small he was able to hold down his own so idk about that. The humu only seemed to mess with my wrasse which he killed n my domino damsel which is another agressive one but never the niger trigger. And the water was way too low for it to jump. Ive had eels disappear on me but never a fish -_-.

Sorry but it does sound like the niger got eaten. It can happen. Aggressive fish in small quarters makes for increased aggression. It was always a risk. Hopefully the rest make it through just fine. :)

When i do a water change because of ammonia in my 18gal qt how much should i remove? And should i rinse out the sponge as well in the hob filter or leave that alone n just do a water change? Thanks :)
