Storing ro/di water question

Ya I just figured if ppm is up then orp would decline naturally.
As Randy says not related. I would not worry about orp in top off water. I dont . In my case CO2 is the bigger issue. A big drop happens in pH when my A/C kicks on. But thats another story for another thread.

Hey guys I had a question about how some of you store you’re ro water and what you use to keep it to minimum ppm while sitting. I am a freak and check my ppm in my top off quite frequently. I wanted to maybe buy one of those small “green killing machine”uv sterilizers with a small filter on it. Any input would be great.

I have mine in a food grade Brute trash can (they range from 20 gallons to 55 gallon pails) and leave a Quiet One 4000 return pump at the bottom just shooting up. I have the 42 gallon pail. It doesn't shoot water out but causes plenty of stir in the can. The surface is constantly agitated in rapid motion. I also leave the cover on to keep any dust or particles out, but it's not air tight.

I owned that UV (25 watt) for a 93 cube, two of those UV's actually, and they were terrible. But that was for aquarium use.

As long as the water isn't sitting still, getting stagnant, you shouldn't need the UV. It can't hurt, but I doubt it'll add any significant difference.

Just my opinion.

It’s built into my sump the icecap 36xl so I can’t clean it like I did a container.

My brother has the icecap 36, the XL was too wide for the stand, but took a dremil and carved out 2 rectangle boxes of the top off area to make it a passive refugium. You lose so much water volume with the built-in top off area in the sump.

If you want to keep it, it's not large enough to get stagnant before use. And if you want, as a precaution, just throw a 500 gph Koralia powerhead in that area.

I use a 30 gallon brute can with the lid on. If I see the TDS go from 0 to 1 it's always due to my DI resin needing to be changed. I live in the desert my tanks will get dust settling on them, I don't worry about it. Not much I can do about it either.
