Strawberry shortcake acro

Mine did not make it. Polyps were peeking out for the first couple days but then no more. I guess that is what happens with fresh cut frag that are not given time to heal. I will not buy fresh cut frags anymore. It seems frags should be left to heal before vendors sale IMO.
I don't think that was your problem..I've received more fresh cut frags than I can count(I prefer them that way), along with plenty of mounted, established frags.... I can't say I've had any better luck with the established pieces compared to the fresh cuts.

Supposedly this coral is just finicky...I'll just take my SOF, I've got enough green anyway :nerd:

oh wow.... sorry to hear that mike....you had a great looking piece there man, i would be devastated if it were mine...that is my favorite acro of all time i wouldn't care if my whole tank went capoot and that piece survived i would be good.....really sorry man...:( when mine grows out i will send you a frag...:)

I got another frag of the Shortcake this morning. I hope to have better luck this time. :)
It came in with color of pink.

what recived mine it was brown from shipping now a month later the baase is bright teal with nice bright polpys under t5's

I have a frag I bought from unique corals about 4wks ago. Its finally starting to color up. I have under t-5 bulbs. I have placed low in the tank with medium flow.

just a update on my frag...
it has grown and encrusted very well but no color still... at one time i had some pink coming in and then it bleached out on me..:(
so i moved it down about half way and it is alive and kicking with great polyp ext. but still no color..brown and white now......hmmmmm maybe it's a low light acro???
btw. im running 250w xm20ks on a m80 ballast....

I have mines about 8'' from the surface under 400w radiums. It is super pink and encrusted nicely but not shooting out any branches yet.

Well this was my 3rd time .. I got this from UC 3 weeks ago and finally it didn't die on me this time and seems to be growing on a faster rate...

I got one from Unique Corals also and it's keeping the pink pretty well... no pic atm though... :(

Hmm... Mine was about 8" down under 250s and I bleached it.... All my other acros have colored up nice.... I have a pic of the brownest acro I could find wasn't even sure I it was alive and in 2 weeks it is the brightest yellow I have ever seen...;) guess I gotta keep playing with it to find a sweet spot I had it in high and med flow and it didn't change in either.....:(

I got my piece from UC about a month and a half ago ... it's already encrusted 3/4" of the disc and sprouting some little branches ... very small ... but none the less they are there.
I have it placed halfway up the tank (120G ... 12-14" from the 250W MH) ... in a decent amount of flow from my MP-40's.

I will have to get a good picture for proof of course.

I have noticed a number of pictures circulating the net with people claiming they are successful with the SS ... but in reality ... the frags are brown, virtually no skin and on the verge of RTN'ing. I am not trying to rag on anyone ... so don't take my comments personally ... It's just an observation I have made. It does seem to be a very difficult piece to keep healthy! :)

I received 2 frags, on 3-05. They are both pictured, earlier in this thread. One frag wasn't mine, but was in my tank for about 3 weeks. My frag is doing great!! It arrived with amazing color, well encrusted. It's held it's great color and even developed more color. It's always had amazing polyp extension. It's also starting to grow a couple branches, though they're very small right now. My frag is about 5" below the surface, and about 11" below 10X54 T5HO lighting. I'll try to remember to take some new pictures of it, later today.

Here we go. I moved it, in order to get a better picture, and it sucked in all it's polyps...lol.

Mine came in real brown. It's encrusting pretty well now and showing quite a bit of pink. Still doesn't have that limey/blueish skin color, but I think in time it will. Has great polyp extension and seems like it is going to make it.

looking at these pics it becomes obvious that there are several corals being referred to as strawberry shortcake - many don't even resemble some of the others

here is mine - color is phenominal growth almost none :)
pics are at least 3-4 months apart, but it has that i'm just about ready to explode with growth look to it

shortly after i got it

That is a BEAUTIFUL frag of SS!!! It's encrusted so nicely onto that plug ... it really does look like it is ready to explode!!!
