Stray voltage

In the meantime try a completely different circuit to plug your cord into. The mystery is why you have stray voltage in the first place

So after talking to my friend all he can come up with is that you have a bad ground somewhere even back to your panel. Hard for him since cannot be there. He suggests checking your ground circuit. There is an electrician on this site who volunteered with his time and may be of more help. I will try to get him the only way I know how by doing what you see. If it doesn't work you can try, or have an electrician take a look. Very interested in knowing the results. #reefsquad

It's pretty difficult to diagnose electrical things over the internet.

I have not seen people online with tanks having that much induced voltage (up to 80 volts), but we don't have 240 volt equipment for hobbyist fish tanks in the US. It's also shocking you, so to me that says there is a problem.

I would get a GFCI (RCD in Europe), and a ground probe (I wouldn't ever recommend using a ground probe without a GCFI), and see if the GFCI trips. If it trips, then there is a problem with equipment. Plug in one by one until you figure out which piece of equipment is tripping the GFCI, and then throw it away. If the GFCI doesn't trip, then something else is going on.

Hey I am trying to get the electrician involved for this fellow but don't know how. The man offered his services a while back. Regards

Wondering how you made out? Found the pros Young Frankenstien, and anemonekeeper

Amperage is only used to check through a load is not potential energy. Another words is power used
i understand the difference between voltage and amperage. Voltage can be measured across almost anything but it doesnt mean there is an electric current you will feel or be dangerous. If you are actually measuring any ampers then you should be concerned.

I figured all this out when i had a heater explode in my tank and pump in 2 amps with voltage only at 50.

The thing is You will be ok unless you make a circuit with your body. Then you are a parallel circuit with ground to actual ground. Then You are the load and the amperage used will depend on your resistance independent of anything else
