Need a little help here real quick from someone. I have my RODI water ready and my Stump remover. I have my doser set up and ready. Just need to know the mix ratio. I have searched and found different levels of mixing the stump remover with the RODI water.

My question is this, everything I have seen is "grams" to liter mixing. i do not have a scale to measure grams.

Does anyone know the teaspoon or tablespoon ratio?

I am thinking or leaning towards two teaspoons to 1 liter of water. But I am unsure if this is correct. Any help would be appreciated.

1 table spoon to 1 cup of rodi. I wouldn't use a doser. You have to take your time and figure out how much your tank consumes.

Just revisiting this post.

I just started using stump remover to try and get my fallow tank up a bit nitrate wise. Phosphates going crazy and SPS bleaching.

I'm at .25 nitrate at the moment (up from 0.0). I put 2 table spoons of stump remover into two cups RODI and dosed 10ml just to see what happens.

How quickly should I test after adding? 20min? 12 hours? I figure I'll test in the morning to see what went down in there.

Ultimately, however, I plan on using a doser once I figure out how much I need daily.

I still am yet to get my nitrates to show any incline in test results. I had to wait on Neptune to send me a new pump head for my doser. I received a bad head with a new DOS system i was using for dosing the Stump remover. But in the meantime i have been adding the No3 mixture to the tank by hand. I have been adding about 20ml every few days. I am taking this very slow! I have noticed a huge difference in the polyp extension of my sps and the color is relly starting to come around. I just got the pump head yesterday so i will now begin dialing in a daily dose and checking daily for test results.

I dont think test right after would be accurate. I would think a few hours after at least. But i am new at this stump remover dosing so i could be wrong.

You need to give it a day to see whether it gets uptaken. I'd test every night and dose until it stops getting uptaken. Feed more too.

I tested this morning and I'm up to .75 - I think....it's more light purple than light pink but I'm just basing it off the darkness of the color. Obviously these kits aren't super exact.

I'm going to put the same dose in tonight and test again in the morning.

Don't use stump remover, it is not pure, it's a dirty product with a chemical smell... For the SAME PRICE, or even cheaper... Get a freshwater planted fertilizer, like kn03 (Potassium Nitrate) from NilocG.

Stump remover has lots of impurities -- FW Planted ferts do not.

OH really? I've seen so many people use the stump remover. I totally agree it's weird to put something like that in the tank, but it's so widely used right? I'm a little nervous adding something else, but I'll do my research on that for sure. Thanks.

I've got my nitrate up over 1...now I'm going to back off the dosage either way.

It's just the lack of purity that worries me. Who really knows that that 1% of impurities *really* is? My tap water (Southern Cali) is actually some of the best in the country, which puts it in the upper echelon of clean water available on the globe.

We have an "acceptable" level of Arsenic in our water. Arsenic. Our water falls within "acceptable" range. Which is more than Zero, less than <some number>. The amount of Arsenic in my water is above zero. There is literally an extremely potent poison coursing through my pipes...

So, why risk that 1%? Who knows whats in there when it comes to proprietary blends from corporations..

It's safe. I've used it not long ago with no ill effects. It's 100% potassium nitrate. Impurities would have to be included in MSDS sheet. No impurities listed.

Your good.

Always mixed clean for me. I made up a gallon of solution and still have some. Once at your target level, it won't move much. So daily doses or weekly dose most likely won't be needed.

Respectfully -- I disagree. Maybe the one I had was a bad batch? But it definitely had a chemical odor that sat uneasy with me. Because of that I went with the FW planted supplements (They're just as anal/nerdy as we are). There's no difference in price, but that odor kinda freaked me out.

I respect your point of view, but an "odor" doesn't quantify a empirical judgement in my book.

I would challenge you on the freshwater nitrate supplement's allowable impurities by the manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, I would fully trust it in my system. (I'm sure there is a MSDS/SDS sheet somewhere on it.) You may trust it because it comes from a well known aquarium chemical manufacturer with their name on the bottle. That's okay, but does it tell the whole story?

I would like, as I'm sure you would, any supplement sold and used in the hobby to have a independent laboratory analysis done and reported publicly. Unfortunately most are not.

With that said, we have to trust the manufacturers of the chemicals we use and or trust what others have found/ experiences, through use and experimentation.

"Bad batches" are possible with anything we trust and use. Unfortunately for us, we don't or can't test them for their results and performance prior to their intended use.

Your mileage my vary.

@Flippers4pups -- No disagreement here on all points. Opting for the FW fert was just me playing it safe, an odor isn't necessarily indicative of anything within itself -- Although through various hobbies (wet shaving, growing herbs & spices, colognes) I've learned to trust my nose. I tend to be overly cautious in general, especially in reefing.

I would say about a year ago the stump remover I had claimed to be 99% pure, not 100%. I'm pretty sure it was the home depot one, but I tossed it out. I just remember it claiming 99%, and having an odor that made me nervous haha.

Ok,
So I have a 220 gal display with 75 gal sump. So far I have gotten up to 26 ml per day dosage of No3. With a very very slight change in testing. I see that the color in my corals is improving and growth. But still not there. I am adding 2 tbsp of Stump Remover to each cup of RODI. so 4 tbsp per 1000ml. Hoping in the next couple weeks if I continue to up the dose per day by a ml at a time each week eventually I will begin to show an increase on the tests.

I have been using stump remover for about a month now and it has really helped my tank my sps were pale and looked like I was going to loose some of them but now they are starting to color up another month or so and they should be looking real nice again

How has your outcome been or changed since this post ? i have about the same amount of TWV and i have been adding about 80ml of a very very weak solution but want to make a stronger batch and get and ida of amount ?

i test a very slight shade of pink , colors are coming back a bit and growth is starting to show again

thanks

Well - I ended up taking the tank down for completely unrelated issues.

BUT - I was dosing about 10mil of my mixture a day and nitrates were up around 1-2. Definitely helped get me off the floor. I tested everyday for a week then just did once a week...things seemed to be good.

Thanks for the response , i appreciate it ! and the last few days Ive been testing and re mixing my solution , i added 2 tbl. spns in 2 cups of R/O and made a gallon of it so i ended up using 32 tbl. spns. which was the rest of the entire bottle.

Tested before i added and nitrate was at about.05 , added 30 ml. of new solution and tested about 20 minutes later and it shot up to almost 2.0 , added nothing the next day and tested and it was down to around 1.5 or so , didnt add that day , 3rd day i tested and it was about .75 roughly .... so if im figuring it right my tank is using up approx. .50 of NO3 daily so the 4th day i set up a dosing pump to add 7ml once daily .

That was yesterday , i will test tonight when i get home and see where its at ?
