Stung by Torch

I ended up getting rid of all of my hammer coral. Every time the back of my hand or arm touched it I had a reaction. I would break out with small red bumps that itched like mosquito bites. They went away after a couple of days.

Sounds different than your experience though.

I've been stung by big jelly fish & Portuguese man o' war, while surfing. There stings you'll certainly know about.
Had the Portuguese man o' war, wrap around my neck & face, as well as several other places, & a big jelly between the legs. You don't want to go there :(

man, that's scary. I thought a man o' war could kill a person.

Maybe it can kill but he his from down under. Takes way more to hurt him then normal people. Lol

Having been stung by a torch and Man 0 war I cab tell you the Man o war is much more painful. I got nailed on a Fl beach across two fingers. I was jumping up and down.

As for the coral sting. Run the affected part under as hot water as you can stand for a full 5 minutes. The toxins denature in the increased temperature. That also works for wasp and bee stings. I had the chance to prove that recently for a wasp sting. The pain was gone in 10 minutes and there was no swelling.

Since we are talking about easy home cures I'll throw this one in. Cut open a vit E capsule and apply it to a burn as soon as possible. The antioxidant action of the Vit E stops the cascade of cellular damage that results from a burn. I do that on kitchen burns immediately and in 10 minutes you will forget that you burned yourself. This also works very well on sun burns. As soon as you get off the beach cover the burned area with Vit E. The pain will go away and you will be able to sleep. It also prevents peeling. The sooner you apply the Vit E , the better it works. I use 400 IU capsules of Vit E for this.

I've been stung in the inner arm by a torch, irritated for like 20 min then it was gone

Dangggggggg....I would wear that if I'm dealing with a lion fish.
I have been stunned by BTA, haddoni, and magnifica many times. Nothing happened. Got stunned by a wasp once. That was painful. However, there was no swelling.

I still have my frogs spawn but am very careful not to touch them. Took me ages to figure out they were the ones stinging me. I thought it was zoas or palys doing it. I try to use hot water and the red bumps can last for up to 10 days. Gloves do help.

Wow frogspawn and hammer are nice. I actually touch them. Never once have they got me. They might one day.
It must be an allergy thing. I purposely touchy my frogspawns and hammer when guests are over... they like to see them retract. Never bothered me. I can feel they are slightly sticky. But... bubble tips don't bother me either.

Yes it can happen, once i had a litle skincut in a finger, and one head on the coral was making room, it just touch me and an i got stung.. i tried everything to wa**** of but i couldn't..

Never been stung by a torch, that's wild man. When I accidently come in contact with my Haddoni it's just super sticky and makes area feel weird for a little bit

You should try vinegar, it neutralizes jellyfish stings to maybe it will work for the torch sting

Try wiping out on a solid six foot cloud break peeler and landing on a big ol head of fire coral.... no fun, you will be ok

That's some pretty good advice....I'll have to remember that!

I've got a tank that I took over for my son, it's got both hammer and frogspawn in it, he had to wear glove-sleeve, first time they got him, he had alergic reaction, his arms actually swelled, and then they don't even phase me, aggrevate him so much

Only a torch and a man o war. Snorkeled through a school of jellies wearing shorts, a t shirt, and gloves. I was picking up and throwing the things. Turns out they did sting, but I wasn’t harmed. My buddy was in a full 3 mil and was mangled all over his neck and ankles.

I got stung by a torch this past weekend. I was placing a new torch in the garden. There is a small cut on the knuckle of my left thumb. I figured the salt was irratating it. When I looked down, I saw the torch next to me hand had a tentacle stuck right into my cut! It burnt like a **** for about 4 hours. The rest of the day it was pretty red. The next day the thumb was fine.
