What's the best way to tell someone that their "Please ID" picture sucks? I mean, isn't it common sense to take a good picture if you want something ID? All blues on or blurry pictures should never be posted for ID's.

Is this world so sensitive now that you can't use the word "suck"? Do not post "your picture sucks" or you'll be put in timeout.

And I wrote suck 4 times in this post so I will probably get a lifetime ban. HaHa

The thing is, it's pretty hard to take good phone pics. Many of the ID pages are quick because they don't want to risk leaving a harmful creature in the tank. I understand you're pain though, 100%. What I like to do is either say "I cant quite see what you're talking about in the picture, could you try a pic without the blues?" or something similar, typically shorter. Then method 2 is watch the thread until someone else points it out and a better pic get's posted ;)

Writing "your picture s***" (I don't want to write the bad word and get ban again) is quick and to the point for a crappy fish id picture.

By understanding they are probably new to the hobby and don't know any better. If you are so irritated by the picture and don't want to be bothered with helping, why bother posting to their question? Not trying to be a jerk, but the way you formatted this makes you seem too high and mighty to help.

New to the hobby has nothing to do with it. It's just common sense. Why wouldn't they putting the time in to take a proper ID photo. Or at least they should say sorry about the pic, but i don't know how to turn off my blues or take a un-blurry picture.

I usually just say ‘A pic with whites would be really helpful, thanks!’ Blurry is difficult, especially with fish and phone cameras, or if there’s a worm or something way deep in the tank. This is why if I can’t get a great pic of something, I try to describe it as best I can along with the best pics I’ve got to help.

It has everything to do with it, they have no clue how similar some variants of species are. If they arent new to the hobby and doing that they probably have no justification to be in the hobby to be honest. What's $10 to get a filter for your phone in comparison to the hundreds spent on fish and equipment. I get your frustration, but I'd be willing to bet the majority are new.

Using the word "suck" or "sucks" is not a bannable offense. Search for threads where people have lost fish or corals and inevitably, someone says "that sucks, sorry for your loss." In that context, you're consoling a fellow hobbyist who is suffering a loss. That's not the same as dropping into multiple "Please ID" threads and leaving nothing but the message "your picture sucks" or "you suck at taking pictures." That's just being rude and unhelpful. If you know enough to tell someone "your picture sucks," you know enough to constructively tell them that you can't make an ID with their picture and need one of better quality.

I was very constructive, I wrote " Ambon / 3spot... your pic's suck!! "...Banded again;)

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the person taking the picture sees it in real life first and can make it out in the bad quality picture. And sometimes people just panic and take a quick pic before the thing disappears, no time to fiddle with the camera or lights. A tip for everyone though, the flash helps to offset the blue a little bit.

Whining about people's incomprehension of quality picture taking sucks. Whining about moderation sucks more. Take your lumps with pride because whining is equally sensitive.

People suck at taking pictures. old news.

Moderate me. I embrace it.

No just simple picture taking...if it's blurry on your phone.... it will be blurry when you post it.

I really don't know what you're expecting to happen in this thread. I think most people would agree that this post was both rude and, specifically the part about the picture quality, not constructive. Members aren't going to rush to your aid and bash the moderators for banning you. Most of them probably think it was the right decision.

IE...your pic sucks!! say's it all

"Your thread sucks" you're right that is much more efficient in delivering the information you desire to share, point taken.

However now all you know is that your thread sucks. you don't why it sucks, you don't know how to make it not suck and you're discouraged from making another thread because what if your next one sucks like the last one? Imagine going up to your grade school teacher with the wrong answer and they just tell you to not be such an idiot next time, I don't think many people would raise their hand again.

I think your missing the point of the R2R spirit... Taking a few extra moments to go into detail with constructive criticism that will help the OP progress in the hobby wether it be taking photos or debating salt mixes, fish stocking etc. If you're unable to comprehend this or you're one of those people that confuse Politcal correctness with basic manners and decency then perhaps this isn't the right forum for you. If you think patience is a virtue then I don't understand why you struggle to take a few extra moments to say "We're going to need some clearer photos, here is how to go about taking them".

You could hav responded to 10 threads constructively with the same amount effort that you're currently putting into complaining about it. That really answers your question for you, just help them because the easiest way to resolve people taking bad pictures is to help them take good ones.
