Suggest some cheap but effective filter floss/pad

So if I put one of these in I'll kill all my pods?

Either way if you use a sock or this in its place the pods don't get through. Pods that make it through your overflow back into the sump will not get past the pipe no matter what you use. But regardless its a very small number that won't make it unless you have crazy flow going to your overflow. Normally pods that get to the main display will find homes in the rock work and any algae you have. Depending on your setup they may reproduce at a rate that your overflow wouldnt matter. They love chaeto and rocks with holes. But be carful if you have anything close to a mandarin because they eat them like candy! So you are trying to upgrade the input into the sump from the main display?

Stupid question... I already knew you were upgrading that. You shouldn't worry about pods going to the sump. If your rocks are porous and water flow is not crazy high you can try anything for the sump input. The biggest thing about the hobby is trial and error. Just make sure no harmful chemicals get in, and you don't flood the house
