Correct, the waste would build up around the membrane and keep concentrating higher and higher.
If you capture your brine or waste the container needs to be about 4 times the size of the treated container or you need to either move it outside or to an area where overflow would not cause a problem or install a drain hose near the top and run it outside or to a floor drain. Don't try to stop the waste flow, it is what keeps the membrane flushed and functional.

I have an aqua fx 5 stage octopuse system. Water at my house is 390 TDS. 0 TDS is my RO/DI output. Water gets pumped into a 30 gallon drum with a float switch from my RO/DI system. At the bottom of the water reservoir is a hose that goes to. an on-demand pump (basically an RV water pressure pump. That water then goes to a 3 gal water tank. From there it gets pumped upstairs to a faucet for drinking water on the sink. I also have a water outlet in the basement if I decide to mix saltwater down there. It's nice not having it in a. place out of the way. I can get all my top off water out of the with 5 gallon pales (or smaller). Sometimes I mix my salt upstairs, just depends on my mood. In the 5 stages I have a 10 micron prefilter, 1 micron prefilter, carbon, RO, DI. My DI goes bad quick because my well is such high TDS. Really need to get a water softener. Would really help everything in the house. Iron is so high in the well. But my system does take it all out. I definately would reccomend the octopus from aqua fx. I plan on converting to a completely closed system with a 30g pressurized drum so no pump needed. Would also be good if power goes out here (rural area).
