Sump and refugium??

How long did it take to make?

Not long, bought my acrylic precut, this was the only area i didnt want to meddle with being my first sump. I used Tapp Plastics, you can get acrylic cut to exact measurements on their site. Once I had the acrylic, it took me about an hour to stage and silicon together, let it set for 48 hours, water tested and done. Do your research on the type of acrylic baffles, thickness, sizes, water absorption, etc. You can also use glass, cheaper...

I like the build your own method. You can find any used or new tank that fits your needs and have baffles made. Personally, i like to separate sumps and refugium into 2 separate tanks if you have the space.

I see.. I think I'm better if buying one lol
If you've got the extra money, they're amazing. I've only ever used a DIY sump and won a free acrylic sump at a reef club event, and they're super cool. Wish I had bought one the first time around.

If you decide to go DIY, it's really easy. Buy a tank that will fit comfortably under your stand from Petco during their $1/gallon sales, then silicone in some glass baffles to make 3 different chambers. I got the glass cut for mine by a local shop who wanted $50. They just needed dimensions for the pieces.

Yeah I understand it might be cheaper to make one, but I'm new to everything literally new to everything so would fill more comfortable with one that is in top shape lol and I not worry about making one etc etc, I mean if I really wanted too, I could make my own

I just got my trigger sump and installed in last night with plumbing. it looks really nice and spacious. So far it's worth the money and no regrets. Though I haven't filled it up with water yet- waiting for the PVC glue to cure fully first
Wow awesome!! Can you send pics? Which system the emerald ruby or clear??

I got the crystal, the cheaper one. It's the same as the ruby and emerald, minus a few features I wouldn't need.

of course, my cat has to inspect.

Wow!!!! Looks great!!!!! Is the largest one? Hiw did you know what size if plumbing parts did you need?

This is the 36" one, yes.

You determine the size of the bulkhead attached to the tank and work from there. The bulkhead in the standard Marineland 75 gal reef ready is 1 inch- then I cut the pipes to fit with a hacksaw

Wow awesome!! What size tank do you got? 75g? You can inbox me if you want...

yep, it's a 75 gal. I have a thread going if you want to follow along there- I've been asking a lot of the same questions you have there too
Saw your thread! Looks great!!!! Is this your first tank? And also do I need a reverse osmosis machine?

It's my first non-nano tank. I've had nanos for the past 5 years. I am excited about this one!

I do suggest getting an RO/DI filter, strongly. it will save you money in the long run to make your own water, rather than buying every time. You can't use tap water or you'd promote algae. Which reminds me, I need to replace my filter soon
