the sump broke on storage.
the sump is fixable as my dad says and it will hold water but he wants to use some glue that i have no idea if is okay to use..
the sump is acrylic
that is the glue he wants to use is used to patch bathtubs it works great and holds up a lot of weight ... if its not safe anyone have a better idea of what glue to use..

Not sure about the resin above but Weld-on is the product used to build acrylic aquariums and to do repairs. Lots of videos on you-tube for diy builds.

Man, I wouldn't try to save that. I don't know what kind of sump that is, but it looks like an old wet/dry sump. You can get a $20-$30 aquarium at Petco during their Dollar a Gallon sale, put a few baffles in it and you will be better off. I don't think that fiberglass resin is going to work like your dad thinks. You need Weld-On, which is a solvent cement that actually fuses the plexiglas together.

You cab patch it with a piece of bew arylic and weldon.

wow so many replies thanks sorry nearest pet co from me is like 75 mils away from me and they never have anything as is tiny. where i leave is almost to nearest to impossible for me to find good aquariums. there arent many hobiest here most i know are three and they get everything online. i am on a huge budget but if it cant be fixed ill just leave everything in the tank and just stack the rocks together to hide the equipment :)

Fiberglass resin by itself has no strength aside from it's adhesive properties, which more than likely would not hold on acrylic.
The reason fiberglass Matt, woven roven
or chopped strand cloth is used when building boat hulls, car bodies and the like.
As well, it will take some time to off gas.

Your best bet, is to just replace it.

u know how it looks like i would go get it at home depot :) if possible a link

Instead of just lining the cracks up and gluing why not get another piece of acrylic cut it to the length of the crack with about an inch width and glue it to the side of the crack too. I hope that makes sense so it's sort of a support brace.

I'd personally scrap it but if you're inclined to fix it that's the best method I see

I would lay the sump on a big piece of cardboard, crack down and trace it out. Then trim it to shape and use it as a template to cut a piece of plexiglass. Line up all of the cracks, glue the S**T out of it and place the new piece on top. Clamp it and let it sit for a day. You'll be fine.

You don't have to use that for a sump. Almost any sturdy container will work, with a little ingenuity. I tried to find a better picture of this old sump that I used maybe 15 years ago on a holding tank, but this is the best I could locate. The sump can be seen behind the tank that is sitting in front of it. That is just a plastic container that I got at Wal-Mart for a few dollars. It worked just fine.
