Sump Drain quite loud

If it’s silent and your emergency pipe can handle the flow in case of a total blockage of the main drain (unlikely) then I’d say you have success. If you have noise in the sump due to drain splashing, extend the pipe just below whatever the water level is in the sump. I just use a dry fitted coupling that way the vertical portion going beneath the water level in the sump is easily removable.

Yes, I also used a dry fitted coupling. so about the total blockage. The valve is turned maybe a little less than half way. Would a fish ever jump into the overflow, find the Durso elbow, swim up and down it and get stuck in the valve?? I'm assuming even if that happens the 3/4 inch emergency drain would be enough to handle it.

Fish, snail etc...anything could happen, you never know. You could use an overflow cover to mitigate that some. Obviously whatever holes or netting you make an overflow cover should allow as much flow as the weirs.

I don’t know enough about hydrodynamics to say if your 3/4” inch emergency drain can handle the total flow in case of a 100% total main drain blockage. It would be hard to know the exact flow capacities of your main or emergency pipes since fittings, bends, and valves will all likely change the rate at which water can move through a given diameter pipe (by gravity alone). My emergency drains are the same size as the mains, and obviously the mains are partially closed with gate valves.

If your main is 1.5” and the emergency is only half of that, and your main is approximately halfway closed, logic would stand that flow rates could be similar or equal....but I’m no rocket surgeon

So the hole on top of your durso stops it from pulling full siphon. To test this plug the hole and you will see. I ran this setup without a valve and it was adequate I recently upgraded pumps and have pulled my durso and installed a valve and will use full siphon due to having increased flow. I’m no expert but I hate water noises so I’ve done it different ways. My .02

OP, to answer your question about the hole and why you get the sound below. It's simple.
The water is entering the pipe and pulling air with it. It can't get enough air from the tiny hole so it gets it somewhere... from the big hole where the water enters. Now the air goes down the pipe with the water and splashes all about making noise.
Now, if you tiny hole on top were bigger.... air would enter and it would allow the water to move more freely in the pipe and not splash so much making it much more quiet down below. It's a matter of finding the right size hole for air to enter.
Having said all that, a Herbie overflow is easier to tune and not much modifying from where you are now.

The more you turn the return pump up the more the open the drain needs to be to accommodate the extra water.
I open up the gate valve all the way, turn the pump up to where I want it, then I adjust the gate valve till it's dead silent.
Hope this helps you.

I would assume the drain pipe is gurgling because it is not at full siphon, and it is sucking some air down. How much taller is the emergency pipe than the drain? Sounds like you have to close the gate valve on your main drain slightly
Put a cap on it with out glue it

I hope you are putting a screen on the drain. This would keep fish, snails, ect. from getting in there in the first place. Just need to clean it every 3 months or so.
Don't need the elbow at all.
