Here’s my sump. I designed it so that the water comes into the rollermat, by the skimmer and then upflows through the refugium. From there, to the back of the sump to the return pump compartment where I also dose.

When it comes down to it I’m sure my wife is gonna be all over me if it don’t look good enough to be seen especially when family comes over to the houseThat's what I have and it was the best aquarium decision I ever made!!!! I thought about it almost a decade because I hated to drill a hole in our hardwood flooring of the living room but since the deed was done, I've never looked back.
My sump is not a show piece but then neither is our basement. It is however very functional with the RODI right next to the sump and a drain. Water changes are literally 5 minutes with no lifting any heavier than a hose attached to my water station pump.
I am the wife in our family and my hubby is pretty easy going about what I want for the aquarium. Since our kids grew up and moved out, our basement isn't used for anything except my sump, (and storing stuff we don't need, ha ha!)When it comes down to it I’m sure my wife is gonna be all over me if it don’t look good enough to be seen especially when family comes over to the house
With my situation if it’s gonna be seen it at least gotta look good lol.
