surfn's 50g cube tank

hi...your cube looks great......everything looks well planned.......but one thing i havent noticed is the ATO?.....i see that the water gets really loud when the water in the return compartment gets lower.....so....ATO is the way to go.....i have a float valve with r/o tubing and connected to a 5g garbage can......i fill it about once a week with some kalk mix.

i also have a 50g display....but its the AGA 50 breeder..

in the mean time i'm just topping off manually with a 1g jug. i'd say it loses about 1g a day or less.

eventually, i'll probably just get another pump for my liter meter and dose fresh water that way as an top off mechanism. that way its impossible for a float valve or anything else to mess up and flood the floor. with the liter meter pump, only bad thing that could happen is the tubing or pump breaking, at which the pump would just seize up if i was gone a long time. which is much better IMO than flooding the carpet since i live on the 2nd floor of an apartment.

update

yesterday i took out some zoas to pick off some algae, and ended up taking several other rocks out. and before i knew it, i was ripping the entire aquascaping apart and re-doing it. i'm very pleased with the results. it only took me the better part of 6-8hrs...lol! :D

there are still some rather large sps on the sand bed in the front, and those as well as a couple others i will be getting rid of. probably selling locally as i dont feel comfortable shipping for another couple of months.

so hopefully that will free up some open sand bed area to make things look more "open". i really wish you could get a better idea for where the caves are. theres an awesome overpass on the front left, and the cap is completely sitting on a ledge in the middle.

i'll get the macro lens out and do some more thorough picture taking once i get the floor cleaned up, and get the rest of the equipment set up.

btw...i cleaned my skimmer cup this morning......WHEWWW!!! STINKY!! lol my skimmer only really seems to skim after i feed, and i've been feeding alot of bloodworms lately since thats the only thing my mandarin will eat.

this shot was taken from a high angle, around looking down at the tank so you can see the aquascaping better.

left side of tank, the star polyps are completely isolated on their own rock so they wont spread. the frogspawn is actually in the back, out of the way cuz i know it will get big again and sting stuff. i left a good amount of room in the back to get ample flow, i'll get a better pic next time.

right side w/ mostly zoas.

closer up of right side, now i finally have a decent place to put my zoa clam on the right side. it still gets a good bit of light back in the corner.

oh, here is the official stocking list:

-purple tang (i love this guy!)
-ORA black clown fish
-orange clown fish (currently living in the fuge as she wont get along with the black one)
-bangaii cardinal
-six-line wrasse
-ORA blue neon gobby
-mandarin goby
-skunk cleaner shrimp
-blood red shrimp
-coral banded shrimp
-fighting conch

pretty sure thats all thats in there worth mentioning. i gave my yellow watchman goby away to a local, b/c the goby was ticking me off as he kept covering up my zoas.

as far as additions to the current livestock, i dont have any plans really. will probably add at least one more of those ORA blue stripe gobies, (i got a yellow one and he didnt get along with the blue one).

i REALLY would like to get a yasha haze goby w/ the candy striped pistol shrimp! thats a must on my list.

would love to get a green clown goby, but i'm afraid of it messing with my sps.

and i would really like a leopard wrasse, but i'll have to think long and hard about that one. if not, probably will go with a couple firefish.

wow tank's looking really good surfn! great job on the aquascaping

Dang man I am very impressed with the aquascape! It looks great!!!

Looks Good! :)

First time seeing this thread and quite impressed with the entire progress.

It looks like you got your 150mm macro figured out as well.

finally got the macro lens out of the box it was packed up in.

i'm gonna need some more practice with it, b/c taking shots through a taller acrylic tank is definitely different than a shorter glass tank. all of my pics higher up in the tank of sps were terrible, as parts were way over exposed.

my pics of stuff towards the bottom turned out well though, so here are some zoa shots.

awesome shots Al.. those Devils Armor and AoG looks awesome!!!

devils armor? so is that what they are called? interesting. didnt know that.

i have just been calling them another morph of amor of god, and thats what they were sold as too i think. they came from a shop on ebay in the new almeda area of cali. i wanted a blue polyp cap i saw them selling, and they also had these zoas i picked up for like $5 to make the shipping worth it.

Devil's Armor and True AoG are two of my favorite pink morphs...
