Not too poor to lose $1,000 worth of fish...
My point is that you cannot equate that fish loss to QT practices.

Well, most of the fish I had for 10+ years and my dad actually paid for. Back when I was just a pup.
He let me take the fish when I moved out on my own.I can equate the fish loss to having ich in my tank. Which came from not QT'ing. The guy down the street who did QT didn't suffer any losses. Just some stressed out fish. Seems pretty cut & dry to me, common sense wise.

From nothing to lethal in 24 hours? - ich? - ain't happening....
In hindsight, I'm sure ich had been coming & going from their gills unbeknownst to me. It just wasn't until a stressor event occurred that the fishes' immune systems were sufficiently lowered enough to allow the parasites to finally penetrate thru the epithelium.
