Switched from Nyos to Deltec 1500ix

Ummm well it hasn’t. I’m not sure how long after I purchased it I kept having an overflow issue with it regardless of what myself or Deltec tried so it was taken back and I ended up with the bubble king route. The short experience I had with it when it worked wasnt bad. I don’t think the physical quality of it justifies the cost.

I have down sized my system and now use an Ultra Reef Skimmer which has been absolutely amazing in skimmate and build quality. I would put its performance above the bubble kings I’ve owned.

Thanks for that feedback. The Deltec build and quality wise does seem cheaper than the NYOS. The reason I was looking at a Deltec was because of the overflow prevention. I was also looking at Bubble King as an option. The Ultra Reef really looks like great craftsmanship.

Been doing this long enough, the little things matter. I'd like my next skimmer to be:

• As silent as possible
• Performs
• overflow protection
• neck cleaner built in
• doesn't care what the water level in sump is for performance

I would hands down get the Ultra Reef. I wouldn’t let an overflow feature hold you back since that could easily be added to any. The Ultra Reef uses the Sicce + pump it’s extremely silent. Check my thread I made on the skimmer.

Just curious, skimmers overflowing most always is caused by the surface tension in the water changing. Usually from an additive, chemical filtration, food, or something similar. But even under the worst conditions I have always been able to raise the skimmer via a riser of some sort and it always fixes it because the water level lowers inside the skimmer. If it doesn’t work....raise it higher. Then after the skimmer removes the cause of the overflow.....lower the skimmer again.

Intersting read, thanks. I own a Deltec 1000i and I really like it, but I can't get out dark and smelly stuff out the tank. I have a heavy fishload in a 120g tank. I have to run it on 10/10 to get anything in the cup. And my nitrates and PO4 keep beening too high. I suspect the skimmer so far...

I might check the air tube, as suggested above..

There is many positive feedback about this skimmer, but also some with my same issue.

I have nothing bad to say about Deltec. I think mine was just a lemon hence their willingness to take it back. Which they didn’t have to do.
