Switching from t5 to radion g5

How long have you been growing these? Have some pics?
Since my last tank reset, I’ve been documenting growth on a few frags over time. This was from June 18th - Today. 3x Viparspectra “165w black box” leds over a 185g display. 40% white, 50% blue.

What bars do you use? I have an Xr 15 blue over a 50g tank at 70% intensity on AB + but I am looking to add some supplement long term to help with coloration.
Popular grow LED bars from alie express. Customized to have alternating 420nm, 470nm, and cool white LEDs.

If I had the t5 running and corals healthy colorful and growing I wouldn’t switch tbh. My sps under xr15 g5. But kinda want t5 now lol Ati 6 lamp min but realistically an 8 x39w fixture PAR monster

can I see how you have the lights hung? I kind of want to mix and match leds too.
LED MASHUP. Radion XR 30 g5, flanked by 2 Kessil A360xs and the reefbrite 48 inch bar kit. Overkill really in PAR. I run the radions and kessils at around 40 percent, Reefbrites at max for fill light (removed the in line dimmer switches).

I haven't seen anybody do a mashup of LEDs like this, but it's worked very well for me.
Really in what way?
Not a great pic but you can see the new growth. Color is comming back from taking down my 120 6 months ago. Anyway everything is healthy and growing.
Your SPS are solid. A lot of these kids have never seen what coral look like outside of a windex bottle... lol

I’m not an LED hater (I use GrassyCore LEDs on one of my systems) but IMO you’ll regret the switch. Coverage with LEDs is definitely more difficult especially for SPS. You’d need a row in the middle and front and back lights mounted at angles to get the proper coverage. If you have some heat issues, just get a chikkerz

BTW LEDs still produce a lot of heat, they just don’t impart that heat into the water very much. Instead it goes it into the room. So, you won’t mitigate your room temperature issues that much by switching. Have you tried a fan? I’ve had an 11 watt fan drop temperatures at the same rate as a 200 W chiller!

I went from an 8 bulb ati fixture to g5 rations and have to say aside from maybe 10% less light getting to the deeper ledges the switchover has been fantastic and am 100% happy with the switch. I used acclimation mode and lost no corals in the changeover either.
What are your tank dimensions?
How many Radions do you use and are they 15's or 30's?

Found a " nifty" btu calculator.
Now it's for led vs hid lighting so doesn't apply here in this discussion except through inference.
Also doesn't take " distribution" into account.
A brief summary:
Watt for watt led is about 10% cooler than hid lighting.
If one can squeeze wattage down to 3/4 watt led per 1 watt hid ( in my mind a reasonable assumption) the led is about 30% cooler..

my tank is a 120 standard so 48x24x24 and its 2 XR30's.
i also mounted a 4ft reefbrite xho in front of my Radions. It helps light get under the overhangs and the bar blocks the glare from my living room

How did you mount the reefbrite?

The issue would be coverage not par. All the ‘wall-to-wall’ SPS led tanks have fixtures above, behind, and in front to get the necessary coverage.
