So the edge I had set up @ work got broken. The top glass cracked so I took it home and took the glass off. It was pretty easy actually. So it sat on my deck all winter and I couldn't bare to see it empty so I cleaned up the ac50 and hydor nanno and grabbed some sand and a piece of dry rock I had lying around and viola. A new tank is born. The light is an 18w led from green elements for now. I plan on building a full spectrum led for it. I'll probably replace the ac50 and intank media basket with a finnex hang on breeder box and turn it into a fuge. I'll also upgrade the powerhead to a tunze nanno stream 6015 or maybe an mp10 but I don't want the powerhead to cost more then the whole setup.
With out further ado my first fts: sorry for the junky iPhone picture.

I have a fluval 12 gallon and want to remove the top because I can't fit my hand or any nice rock into the tank. Glad to see it works!

Thanks. There are so many possibilities with an I stocked tank. One minute I want to try one thing and the. The next I want to go a completely different way. I'm thinking maybe a really nice goby and shrimp pair. And as far as corals go a nice meat coral and then just frags from my 57 I'm go an try mostly SPS and maybe a torch or frogspawn for so e movement.

Here's a little update I tried a tunze nano stream 6015 and yeah way to strong. So after much deliberations I decided to upgrade my mp10 on my 57 and picked up a mp40. That allowed me to put the mp10 on the edge. I also picked up the finnex fuge and fuge ray. That little thing is sweet here's some quick pictures. Oh and don't mind the hair algae it just appeared out of nowhere.

Looking good buddy!

:)

I had an edge a while ago. I hated working in such a small opening. Thought about going topless but ended up getting a 20L instead.

Yeah I couldn't stand the top on the thing. I definitely didn't clean it as often as I should have because it was such a pain. Every time I stuck my hand in there I knocked something over or broke a coral. This is really going to be a bit of an experiment for me.

So if you notice the hair algae is only on the dry rock I have. Is this just done sort of progression of algae? I think I remember getting hair algae real fast the last time I started with some dry rock.

Not sure. I never went through a cycle with dry rock. I added a few lbs to my 20L but only after it sitting in old tank water after a WC for a few weeks and it hasn't gotten any hair algae yet.

Hey Now. So not only have I been taking the tank slow but I guess I've been taking this thread real slow. I have some progress to show. I added some more sand today so please excuse the appearance. I added a few corals 3 weeks ago. I also added a hectors goby a month ago and a shark nose goby today.
I also added an mp10. Enjoy.

I also hooked up my old RKL. The corals love this light but I don't like the layout of the LEDs. So I'm thinking of building a new light for it. The only problem with that is that I think I'm going to go crazy with LEDs. Here's the view from my pillow.

Amazing idea to hack the top of the edge. My local petco had these on clearance for 10 bucks! If I had seen this post I prolly would of purchased 1 or 2.....
Also, the mangroves are a nice touch.

Wow 10 dollars. Thanks I like the mangroves too. I'm going to add a few more types of macro there too. I raised the sand bed there to give it some depth and allow for macros.
