Hi everyone has anyone ever had any experience with owning a tailspot blenny? Because I have read that a couple of people have had problems with them not eating so I wanted to know if they really are that bad to get eating?

If you have insufficient about of algea in your tank they will die. They don’t do good in new tanks

I actually do have some hair algae on my sandbed would it just eat that up and starve after that ?

Honestly it depends on the fish some will eat GHA and some won’t. You could also try supplement feeding with algae sheet and algae wafers. Some will eat meaty foods too

Mine is a little pig and eats everything I put in the tank. She only nibbled at the Nori, but devours mysis, dry, whatever else. Can you get one from a store where you can see it eat?

I've had 3. I inherited one in a set up I bought and lost it. The second I never got eating but it was in a tank with a variety of algaes avaliable. Currently I'm a couple months in on another and he eats like a pig everything I put in the tank!

Mine is a bit picky. You should supplement his algae intake with nori sheets or algae pellets very near by his den. I also feed him a bit minced mysis, and he really likes spiralina induced brine shrimp.

I turn off the powerheads when I feed him so the food lingers very near by his hangout den for as long as possible.

What has mine eaten so far...
-Pods, frozen/thawed or fresh
-Whatever is in LRS reef frenzy nano
-algea sheets
-carnivore pellets
-algea pellets
-oysterfeast
-frozen marine cuisine...mysis, krill, spirolina
And last and most annoying if it’s hungry.
Whatever zoa/paly that’s near its preferred hole of the weak. It’ll rip chunks off to keep its belly fat, it’s a jerk
Mostly prefers any that are pink.

All of mine have snubbed nori. They have eaten any frozen food or pellets. I feed a mix of meats and greens. I have never had one pick at any coral. Good starter foods are pe mysis and nutramar ova.

Dusting off this old thread.

I haven't had a ton of luck with fish in my new tank. My cycle completed and I put my first fish (a helfrichi firefish and a yasha goby from LiveAquaria) in. The firefish was eating well and swimming well the first few days and died on Day 5. The Yasha hid the entire time and died on Day 6. I did a 30% water change and took water to the LFS (unfortunately far away bc my local LFS have all closed) and my salinity was a bit high at 1.026 but otherwise fine.

The LFS felt the fish deaths were a fluke and sold me a well-acclimated tailspot. He is out and about (moving to different sections of his live rock) but he won't touch mysis after 3 days. Unfortunately I don't really have algae yet either. Any advice?

One big question I have is, I have a ball of red ogo in the tank. Will he nibble on that?

Thank you.
