Taking out sand and replacing it

Mine got stuck a couple times also when I sucked up some LR rubble or Nassarius shells.

I cleaned my sandbed regularly, and the water and sand was still just so filthy when I took it out yesterday. I would say I got about 25% of it out, it was so brown it was disgusting.

I have no idea how I am going to take the egg crate out tbh. There is no real way of doing it without tearing the tank down, which isn't really an option.
What's the egg crate for

Just a few questions for you. How deep is your sand bed in your aquarium? What kind of sand did you use in your current setup?
It is about 2-3 inches in most places. Don't remember the name but it was dry sand when I put it in. It was not live sand.

I placed it on the entire bottom panel so the LR sits on top of it. I didn't want any pressure areas from the LR onto the glass.

Any suggestions on how to 'trim' it around just the LR so the tank doesn't have to be taken down to get it out? lol

Use a pair of wire snips and trim around the lr. I may have to do that when I get all my sand out. I don't mind moving my rock around. I took it all out yesterday and cleaned it

LOL do wire snips come on an extension handle? My tank alone is 3.5 feet deep. I had tried before, even grazing the bottom of the tank. With my arm and hand fully in the water I still can't touch the bottom.

Get bolt cutters they are about a foot long or longer. That over kill but would work lol.

Just to add my 2 cents, I’ll often lift sand out in a filter sock to avoid getting it all over the place.

Would the steel in the tank be anything to worry about? Also I think bolt cutter has some sort of lubrication or grease where the hinge part is.... not sure if this is reef safe lol

Yeah your right it does

I was thinking that also.

I mean to go notch by notch with a razor blade would most likely take more time than me dropping the water level, jumping in and just doing it manually lol

All that cleaning the rocks. Removing so

Mine was the same way. I dunno what was going on, never had I had such a problem with my sandbed. Because I clean regularly, I don’t overfeed, and for the life of me I could not keep the sand clean.

I have removed a good 50% over the last 2 days and it was still so dirty

I am with you. I think I am going to order vibrant and try that. While I wait on it. I will test tds out of ro/di unit and change everything again. I did this a while back and that did not help. I am going to turn off my white lights for a couple days to.

Could it be the sand? I was using CaribSea Special grade.

I tried lights out for a week. Came back stronger. I was going to order Vibrant but some people said they attributed using it to cyano after.

I also did what you did, check and changes all stages to my RODI with stuff from Specrapure (which I always use) so I know they are quality filters and it did absolutely nothing to help.
