Talk me back into salt

If you are going to divide the flow I probably would divide the return but imho I would run in series not divided. Either skimmer first or ats first

It does the majority can be collected while harvesting. I guess its a preference thing as the fuge is a good place to grow pods. I myself would rather have the water cleaned by the ats first and then have the skimmer filter what the ats doesn't get but that's just me. Maybe others will chime in on what they do.

That makes sense. Thanks blue. So, technically then, I don't need a fuge because the pods will come from the ats?

Thanks. I was actually just looking at my canopy last night. It looks like my L-brackets are all rusted. I am going to replace them tonight but, is there anything I can coat them in so they don't rust again?

Technically no esp If fuge is for nutrient control. But I still like having one for the following reasons: adds water volume, place to put livestock temporarily if needed, grow larger pods, grow algae food for fish like tangs.

I would say any kind of primer designed to protect against corrosion

Go SPS! Then you can spend $1000.00 on 1/2" frags with names like The Omnipotent!!

But seriously, go salt. Plant tanks were cool....in the 80's.

So, I now need to build an ats but I think I can do that. What type of skimmer would you guys recommend?

You can do it. Just make sure to size the screen appropriately and have the correct flow. I have thought of having 7 screens, one for everyday so you don't lose filtration although I suppose the skimmer could make up for that

Might be easier to draw but I thought of having 1 screen then divide into 7 sections then hang the same way you would 1 screen through the use of couplings if that makes sense

Oh yeah. I like that idea. Might be a pain to clean and maintain though. What would you use for couplings? I hate the thought of zip ties. All they are is more plastic to replace for cleaning and they would just hurt the environment.

Yes cable ties to hang to pipe but I'm talking cutting pipe into sections as well and coupling them together via removable couplings so you can remove one screen at a time. I would valve the incoming flow so you can shut off to clean screen

I see. That makes more sense. Would you use unions or something like that? I'm still mot quite sure what you mean.
