Well I think it was white the whole time. It looked yellow due to my lighting as does the stripe along his side under it. It was never brown. From what I've read it's probably a parasite. At least it's not ick.Ick is small white spots, so the big brown 1 turning white is out of my league.
Ok. I don't have any garlic supplements right now. This is a really odd question but can I use organic garlic and just squeeze the juice out of it. My mom has a kitchen utensil for this...Then I would dose the garlic to help out a bit, and research what else it may be.
No not generally.I'm worried about the bump. It appears to be white now. When a fish get ick does it cause a large bump?
Garlic doesn't help with anything but increase appetite. You might try adding selcon to your food (soak it in selcon).Ok. I don't have any garlic supplements right now. No,he was not. He is somewhat kiddish and breathing somewhat heavily. He seems to rub against the front glass once in awhile but I think he's attacking his reflection because he doesn't do it to to rock or sand. You tang looks pretty healthy, though the bump does concern me. Garlic isn't going to do anything for you (as 4ford mentioned already) Use the vitamin supplements he recommended for you. Ich isn't going to cause that bump either. You could try dosing Epsom Salt (from the drug store) 1 tbsp per gallon to reduce the swelling. That's a reef safe option to ADD to the vitamin supplements. Do this for now and keep an eye on him. I think I remember you saying he was scratching/ rubbing against the rocks and sand correct?
Epsom salt... Sounds good! The swelling has gone away mainly. I think he just likes to eat a lot
Ok! That looked better today to. Just realized it was white and panicked. I will try to get selcon as soon as possible. Anyone able to see the lines on his gills though. That and the heavy breathing have me worried after some research. The epsom salt was for the bump on his head. I'm hoping it will help reduce the swelling on that, which would reduce the size of the bump. Try that and the vitamin supplements and then just watch him closely. Keep us posted on how he's doing.
Also, for the record, I find some tangs to be flighty and skittish for a while until they are comfortable in their home. It may take him a little longer than you might expect to get there.
I dont see anything else to be worried about. He looks rather healthy from those pictures. Maybe you could get a closer picture of the gill area? Also, if you look at the image is that spot of black, or darker area on his dorsal something I should worry about?
I will try tomorrow. I would hate to wake him up right now. Also it is very difficult to use an iPad on these. Sorry haha. Maybe my mom will let me use her nice camera... It helps to have a mom who's a photographer
That spot could be ich, if the one on the side of the fish is the place in question.
I would agree, but when it first started it was a very largbump and it slowly shrank to that spot you are seeing. So I do not believe it is ick.
