I’m assuming I am going to receive flak for this but I was planning on getting a tiny tomini tang for my 60 cube I’m planning to upgrade in a year i think it will be ok but I want to hear your guys thoughts!

I don’t see anything wrong with it. Tomini tangs stay pretty small and if you plan on upgrading then that’s even better. Just stick with getting a small one like you mentioned!

I’ve got a YT and a BE bristletooth in a 60. The wife is already planning a bigger tank, so that plan worked quite well :)

They stay quite small. I see no problem. They usually don´t get larger than 2 inches in aquariums. Although they can reach up to 6 inches in the wild.

Tangs need swimming space is the reason for tank size requirements. I believe Tomini are 75 gallon which is a 4' tank. Cube would not be ideal for a tang.

The tang may become very aggressive in a smaller tank. Pretty sure Tomini get bigger than 2”. My 2-3 year old yellow eyed kole tang is 5”. He was about 1” when I got him.

You know, people like BRS keep Yellow Tangs in their tanks quite often. And Melevs Reef “Marc” kept a blue tang in his 60 gallon Anemone cube for a long time. Not sure if he still does or not. My first thought was “What”!!!!!. You gotta be kidding. Now he does have a 400 gallon tank sitting right next to his cube. Pretty sure the fish got banished from that tank because it was eating his zoas. And of course BRS with all their systems could just move a fish over to another system. If you’re for sure going to upgrade in the near future, I don’t see a reason why you shouldn’t purchase the fish. Not sure how your tank is laid out rock wise. I’ve seen standard 75 gallon tanks with way less swimming room than an open-scaped 60 cube. I mean sure, that 75 gallon met the “minimum” tank size requirement and had a bigger footprint , but it was stuffed to the gills full of rock. Not much room left for swimming. So if you have a good bit of open swimming room and your current livestock is compatible, why not? The problem is, so many people plan on upgrading and that never happens. You see how these cubes have a fairly open aquascape. And you see the fish that are swimming in there. lol!!! Is it right or wrong to do this? Opinions will vary. They always do on these tang Tank Size threads.

Thanks for the response well considering all the forums I looked at I think I’m going to get a juvenile as I’m planning to upgrade in a year I think it will be fine

You should check out the tank of the month. Speaking of tangs in a smallish tank. Lol. And also check out what his livestock list looks like. It’s a cubish also. 80cm x 80cm. That’s 31.4“ by 31.4” If I’m reading it right.
