Hey guys! What Tang would be good in a 120g with a black tang?
Purple tang and yellow tangs are a no.
Right now I have no tangs. But Im about to add a salfin tang now, and a black Tang later on. Both small.

None! Are you talking about a four foot 120 gallon tank? Sailfins get big....real big. They say the minimum size for a sailfin is 180, but I think that's pushing it. Either way, I wouldn't put either in anything less than a six foot tank.

This fish is great, they don't grow big. I have an adult given from fellow reefer, doing well and the previous owner had him/her for 3-4 yrs. Very active

I had a purple and a hippo when I added my black tang and then the gem tang. My purple was fine for two yrs with black tang then he started going at the gem tang meanwhile the black tang was not happy when I added the gem and after a while they worked it out but unfortunately I had to pull the purple tang out. My suggestion is to add them all together and you have a better chance of no fighting. And approximately same size if you can. If you are getting a 2" black tang look for same on other tangs.

How big was the tank?

i have a purple and yellow eye kole tang you can have, just come and catch em! purple tang is the tank boss and the yellow eye is the assassin. so far I'm out an australian scotts fairy (male) and a blue jaw trigger (also male). the purple is only a jerk when its time to eat, the yellow eye... 24/7 all my other fish hate him. I'm actually thinking of giving these two the boot and picking up a white tail bristletooth. they're gorgeous.

Check out the cheveron tangs, gorgeous fish may be a bit touchy at the beginning but I have one in with my black tang and they are great together!!

Chevron tang is a gorgeous fish and does a good job in a tank.

Chevron is nice and they don't get too big also, just pricey to me.
I have 120 gallon 4x2x2, I have juvenile yellow and adult tomini, they get along fine. My only problem fish is the Flame angel, it picks on every fish

I have a desjardini sailfin in my 180, he's about the size of a small dinner plate right now. I couldn't picture one being in any smaller of a tank, sometimes I think he needs a bigger one (upgrade maybe? Haha)

Depend on the type of the tang, my tomini is an adult and it is only about 5" long

Yellow eye kole powder blue a a naso is always a good addition, in my 180 I have a purple, naso, pbt, yellow eye kole, if not feed the naso and pbt have issues. But all get along fine. Good luck

Yellow eye would be awesome in a 4 ft tank. But a Naso I would have to disagree with. The Naso will get to over a 1/4 of the tanks size.

one tang, a Tomini or kole should be ok. some will say a yellow is fine for that size tank. for all others I say no. it's not only their size. it's also about the room these fish need. they are easily stressed when confined in too small tanks. this can lead to all sorts of problems. I have a 120 gal. and won't even think of adding any tang, but that's just me.
