Well this is a thread i thought i would never have to start.
thursday night things just werent looking right in the tank, some things were closed like my massive frogspwany colony and even the mushrooms were closed. wasnt sure what the issue was so started running the ro unit so i had water to make a nice size change after work on friday. I get home from work on friday and went straght out to my daughters basketball game. i get home last night and finally get a second to go do my water change.
I go down stairs to see the tank and see total devastation. i am still in shock as im writing this. I have been keeping reefs for 15 years and never seen a 95% of all corals die in 1 day. Everything was dark brown not just sps but all lps as well almost all sps was in a rtn state or already white. i spent too many hrs to count last night performing over 160 gallons of water changes and carbon changes i set up a 60 gal frag tank to try to move everything out of my frag tanks and into it, but its not helping.
my system consisted of my 220 and two 30 gal frag tanks plumbed into a 150 gal rubbermaid sump it was a great idea at the time to have everything plumbed together and have all my frags in a stable large system, but i definitely paid for that decision
hoping today that things would look better but the damage is done and i just keep pulling more and more dead corals from the tank.
i dont even no where to begin to rebuild this tank and not totally sure i want to at this point
i talked with sexy mike and figured out what caused the crash. I am sure everyone here has used flatworm exit before. and so have i many of time on this same tank. I had noticed a few red planaria last week on thursday and decided to do a treatment to catch them while there were only a few that could be seen. I did a 2 bottle treatment on my tank which is normal to do a double dose. 2 bottles can treat 600 gallons or double dose a 300 gal system my system is 380 gallons so not even a double dose. Followed directions to a t extra carbon water changes, etc.. and everything seemed fine. Sexy Mike says he has seen the same thing with 3 of his customers lately so not sure if there is a bad batch of FWE out there or not but this was the only change to my sytem in the last month. He described the same exact things i am seeing burnt looking corals and some of them turned gray.
the only good thing in this situation is that my fish are all perfectly happy and healthy and it looks like alot of the zoa colonies might be ok. just stressed and not happy. of course the first ones to open after the large water changes are the pink and golds just my luck
i have a few people waiting for frag packs to be shipped and i do appologize that every frag and 95% of my colonies are dead i will be sending pms here shortly and refunds will be issued
now for the pictures i cry every time i walk by the tank now
