Wouldn’t have thought it would happen today..but sadly it did. Lost 2 clownfish, and “Benny” the blenny. Rest in peace little buddies. Will be hopefully finding the root of the crash when I have my water tested tomorrow. Just wanted to write this to get it out of my mind.

Sorry to hear this! I know the feeling. Did you check for any equipment failures? Any signs of disease? Or do you dose anything?
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to monitor my tank as much as I used to, since I have moved into the dorms at my college and left my tank at home for my mother to feed. My tank had been doing well for awhile now, it’s been running since May 2018 I believe. Nothing new was added since October. Corals had been declining over the past month I want to say. I believe it’s a good possibility that things have started to decline due to the tank being over feed for the last 4 months, although I’ll get a better idea when I have my water tested tomorrow. From what I know, the tank has flow and temperature is normal. Although, it was topped off with a gallon of non salt water last night (more than I would have done at once) due to the water level being low, my tank is 31 gallons including the sump, so maybe that put the tank over the tipping point? Agh I just hate losing fish

Yep quick checks temp , salinity , ph , alk, ammonia , nitrate , phosphate will tell a lot I’m sure.

Making small progress each week. Treated the tank with chemi clean to get rid of all of the red slime that appeared as a result of the crash. Just completed a water change and cleaned the sand. These past couple weeks have been hard for me, but it’s getting better.

Your tank could have been much better healed if you rip clean it weeks ago, it's still injured due to delay

It's the best fix for any nano

If you want to save what's left, do this

Your tank isn't healthy until you do this because that clouding you see is literally harmful:

If you intently study that, we can apply it right now today, and by tomorrow your tank is fixed

Study every example, look how their tanks turned out 24 hours after, sparkly clean, look at their one year updates

I want to be clear: delaying is obviously harming your nano, let go of old incorrect cycling fears and apply a rip clean today with me live time here. If you rinse the sand 100% clean like those top six examples did we can add you as a work thread example. That's the best of the best rip cleans... nothing else can save your reef.

Partial cleaning plus chemi clean has harmed your reef, we could fix that

All you need is 100% new water prepared matching temp and salinity, make new salinity at .025 if you're not that high already. Low salinity isn't best, .025 is best for your tank needs

I literally have no idea what a rip clean is but anything this guy claims to be the best or only way I have serious questions about. Maybe it’s a great method but this guy always assumes and acts as if his way is the only acceptable one. There are a million ways to skin a cat.

Your picture, after cleaning, is still in a harmed state because its only about 10% fixed. Water cloudy, algae on rocks, dirty sand even after partial cleaning

The sandbed is full of blackened waste organics poisoning your whole system, this is full eutrophication/harm

Your caulastrea could be open, happy, but it's harmed. We would clean out the algae attached to it's skeleton at the very last step in a special way.

That partial clean condition is harming your tank, see our after pics when studying. They're so clear the tanks look empty of water, that fixes your reef

Don't delay, chief nano fixer wants to help your tank. We can run your rip clean live time right here, I would enjoy fixing our ten thousandth nano on file its quite easy if you'll study and rinse well

Study study study then apply= your reef fixed in 24 hours

I have three example threads of fixing these conditions I would add your tank to if you agree to save it with no delay

its not possible for you to find on the internet 7 reefs fixed in 24 hours using any other means, the only reason to not apply these steps is if you want to see how long the system can exist while being chemically harmed. if you want your investment fixed, you'd let go of any hesitation and apply the known/documented fix.

Sorry, not interested in your products at this time.

clearly, you got this all planned out

when you're ready to change up the monthslong harm from never cleaning the nano this is what happens

from the thread above/the product

if this was a dog forum and he posted a filthy kennel, and said his dog died mysteriously you'd be up in arms.

forum bros like to pick and choose when they redirect.

add no more fish here, the tank killed them not the other way around.

that blackened mess in the sandbed is remarkably poisonous. your corals are not feeding correctly nor adding mass, they're living on internal stores and algae is taking over.

this is why increasing fish prices are good, they shouldn't be this expendable. if keepers can't just replace marine animals like feeder goldfish some care and attention will accompany the new fish purchases.

I’m struggling to find anywhere on this thread that sais the OP was even contemplating adding fish at this time. Looks like he wants to sort the tank first after an unexplained crash, in his own way, in his own time. If your gonna say everyone must keep every coral alive, forever, then your in the wrong hobby, it doesn’t happen..

every time i see a high school kid on here asking for advice on setting up a tank i cringe cause i know sooner or later they are going away to college and their folks will try to keep up with it unsuccessfully...

+1. I got rid of my high school tank when I went off to college.

I think this is a sign that you need to put your tank on pause until you can maybe rent an apartment as an upperclassmen. Even then, I did that in college. When I graduated though, I moved two hours away for my first job. Everything arrived dead. It was horrible.

I really would advise to just wait till after college. The hobby will still be here.

You got any holes in that lid, if that’s what it is?
Any means of aeration part from the power Head?
Any way to run activated carbon?
What does that temperature thing say?

Sorry to hear I had a wave pump fail and it sent electric current into the water . I now run a ground probe. Maybe something like that don't happen often but when it does everything gets it

The irony is YOU are one of the biggest “forum bros” I have ever come across. You come across as so arrogant and full of hubris! Honestly I cringe almost every time I read one of your posts. I get that you are just trying to help people and I am sure you do but learn humility bro and understand that it’s not always your way or the highway.
