Tank Emergency forum

In a perfect world, I would wish we had an "Emergency" forum, however, I understand the change- I can't speak for everyone else, but the majority of the posts tended to be about benign topics that were distressing to the new hobbyists, but in no way something that needed to be dealt with in a timely manner. As a result, I spent less and less time frequenting that forum and likely the true emergencies received far less attention if others had the same experience.

Since the issue seems to center around self categorization and "what is an emergency", I'm wondering if the mods could have the ability to tag a post as an emergency? If tagged, the post would be modified in some way to make it easier for the public to see and respond. Just a thought, I have no idea if it's practical or not :)

I agree, the few emergency threads I have read, generally started with ‘I know it’s not an emergency but...’ followed with some excuse, such as ‘I knew it would get more attention here’ .

poss modded out ,with a refusal standard message??and put em back up and running again??just suggestions :)

I feel the issue comes down to traffic. There are certain forums that have far more traffic than others.

In the past, I have posted in the appropriate forum for the topic, only to have it get 2 or 3 responses, and sometimes none at all. A repost of the same question to the Reef Aquarium Discussion form, which has higher traffic, gets more views and more responses.

How do you fix that?
poss space on home page with the "red " like award notifcation block??

I like the idea of a block on the home page, maybe between the recent posts and sponsor threads. Would be easy to see right on the home page and get much better traffic.

Honestly I don't think there's an end all be all of solutions for this issue, realistically a Tank Emergency is a relative term, to most of us someone will post an emergency and we view it as a normal topic that's no big deal. But to a novice reefer or someone who has never dealt with that situation before it could very well be perceived as an Emergency.

I think people are putting far too much emphasis on the term Emergency, maybe rename the forum to Tank Troubles or something similar. That way everyone's expectations of the questions will be different. People still get the help they need, without the judgment on whether or not its the most appropriate forum for the question or topic...
