Tank issues . ..

Back when I started, DSB's were just starting up as all the new rage... but they come with issues. Disturbing it = nuked tank. Yours is on the edge of a DSB. To the point that it may be an issue. I'd siphon off half of it myself, going to an inch and a half or so.

My LFS guy advised I not disturb too much ( I understand the general concept of the release of trapped gasses, etc). I thought if I set up a temporary tank (I have an unused aquarium in my basement with a canister filter and extra circulators, heaters, even my old MH light) I could transfer a good amount of my current water, move the live rock, fish, inverts to the temp tank and then get rid of the remaining water and sand. Then add back a bit of new sand, new H20 and return everything else back to tank. Sounded like a weekend project.
But also appears like that is a naive thought.
He suggested I leave everything as is but syphon off small amounts of sand over several weeks while doing the water changes.
It appears you agree with the siphoning and the overall reduction in the sand bed. Anything else I should be aware of with this task?
