Tank Made Possible by R2R

Following along. I just finished putting up a 90 this weekend. It wasn’t a lot of fun. Putting up a new tank in the same place that two smaller tanks occupy is a logistical nightmare. I prefer just starting a new tank...

I didn’t get one yet. Have to now factor in head height and pick a stronger one
Oh I see. I’d recommend just posting on here before you order any equipment. I wish I would of done that before I ordered my equipment. I’ve found the 5 star product review system to be very inaccurate on the main saltwater websites & amazon of corse; some of the best stuff is 3 stars, some of the worst stuff is almost 5. We want you to have success :)
My vote is VarioS 6.

Tank was scheduled to arrive at LFS yesterday. It’s still not there. We were told there may be delays due to the short week. I knew this might happen but I’m soooooo disappointed. Perhaps I’m not as patient as I was thinking ....

I’ve got the same problem coming my way in the near future lol. What’s your stock list?

Ok thx! Will post on here 1st for suggestions

Tank arrived at LFS yesterday. Now all we need to do is get someone to help us bring it from the truck to the house and we can pick it up. Should pick up this weekend!!! Yaaaay

Also, last night, my husband and I relocated out original DT. Boy that was fun. It’s going fallow so no fish had to be caught. But buckets everywhere! It’s embarrassing how filthy the little corner behind the tank had gotten. Mental note: put new tank far enough from wall to allow cleaning ...

My daddy used to say, “A boat is a hole in the water, surrounded by wood, into which one pours money.” Of course, he should know.... he a had a really large boat! But the same could be said for aquariums.
Yes, instead of being surrounded by wood, its glass or acrylic. Lol

It’s finally here!!! Mostly. It was supposed to be here on April 23rd but no matter. It’s here. Unfortunately, the sump was cracked and I’m now stuck waiting an unknown period of time to get a replacement sump.

I’m honestly a little overwhelmed by all I’ve learned and still have to learn about the equipment. Skimmers and pumps and PAR and lumens and gph and OMG when does it end?!? It does end. Doesn’t it?

Budget woes
Ahhh the budget. That pesky figment of my imagination that just won’t seem to go away. It’s driving me nuts. NUTS!!!
Budget was based on getting a wrong quote for the tank/stand/sump that I wanted. Chalk that up to a misunderstanding. So I was screwed before I started. I had $1,000 left in my budget when I realized the lights I want cost $2,000. So no skimmer, no wavemakers, no return pump, no lid. And already 1,000 over budget. Eeek. All in, looks like I’ll need $4,000 of stuff. So how do I swallow $3,000? Perhaps we go fish/inverts only for a while. Maybe a long while. Save on lighting and wavemakers for now. Get a big skimmer.

Pic is of the empty tank waiting for the sump. Next to it is my qt/hospital tank that’s housing the only 2 surviving fish after the Velvet outbreak. Hard lessons were learned. Innocent fish were needlessly lost. I can’t wait to get the 2 fish into that nice roomy new tank :) they deserve it

Nothing much to show just yet I’m afraid. But we’re slowly getting there ...
ATO, lights, and top of skimmer can be seen waiting in the corner.

Very nice looking tank. Are you going to hard plumb it or just go with the flex hose?

Long story short, I have both sets of hoses available. Not sure which to go with. I believe the hard plumbing allows better flow but the flex tubing is easier to maneuver...the return pump is strong enough to handle the flex. What do you suggest?

Installed the flex tubing because I assume it’s easier to deal w a potential clog that way.

Some thoughts:

I’ve been plying with the aquascape for over a week and just can’t get it right. I’ve got my own image in my head and I can’t make it come to life. I really enjoyed scaping my 55g so this was a bit of a surprise.

I’ve decided to purchase several used items and I’m aware I may decide to upgrade in the future. I have made peace with that. I’ve got a pile of equipment waiting till I get the aquascape done. Grrr

What part isn't working?

Shelfs, caves, to close to glass, not enough open sand, too much open sand?

Caves. I’ve never glued or attached the rock to each other for various reasons. I always just use gravity and stack em up. I can’t get the right look with the rocks I have. I want to do a bay style structure on one side and a cave with at lease 2 sections on the other. I think maybe the issue is that I have an exact thing in mind and my rocks won’t cooperate
