I'm in a 1bedroom apt which has plenty of space for a tank setup. However, the manageability aspect is my main concern. Does anyone have experience in this type of situation? Such as water? How to incorporate ro/di. Far distance from drains, etc? Ground floor apt.

I'm currently considering from 45 - 120 gallons, and could use some insight from someone who's been there and done that?

Thanks

a few years ago i had a 1 bedroom second story apartment with a cadlights 50 long in it. it fit fine but there are draw backs to having a tank in an apartment. drainage wise i would use the sinks and toilet. as far as a rodi i would set one up in the laundry closet (if you have one) or connect it under a sink. i recommend staying with a smaller size tank just because it will use less water (top off, water changes) so if you do end up having to lug buckets around it will be less work

Hi are you on the second floor or first floor and if you are on the first floor are you on a concrete slab or do you have a basement? A 120 gallon tank can weigh in at 1000 lbs or more and if the structure you reside in can not handle the weight it could be a disaster. If your apartment is a one story on a concert slab than a tank of a 120 gallons should be no problem.

Welcome to R2R!!! You can always sleep on the couch, question is what is the biggest tank can fit in the bedroom, LOL!!!
As said above, a 120 gal tank can weigh alot, 960 pounds alone in water, plus tank, stand, and such.

!!! Welcome to R2R !!! Nano tanks are the best choice when you don't have enough space for a bigger tank. Of course that will limit the amount and type of fish you can put on it.

Welcome EZ ! Is yiour place 2 story? surely want it on the 1st . Filter under the sink like James M states . Will it sit on carpet ?
Sounds very doable . Just how much space Ya got? is here a living room With the bedroom in a separate room ?

Welcome to reef2reef!!
You could hook up a RODI system to your sink
I did exactly this in a 2-bedroom condo and it worked perfectly. I had a 120g standard (48"x24"x24") with a 40g sump below and it was awesome.
Some other things to think about would be depending on the construction and orientation of the building you ideally want it up against an exterior or load bearing wall or corner and spanning across the floor joists. Also look into an insurance package that covers you and anyone underneath you that might be affected should your tank have a water issue.

Thanks for all of your fast responses!

I'm on the first floor, ground floor, so weight shouldn't be a problem. Cannot drain to outside. The location is the farthest point away from the bathroom. However, close to kitchen and laundry room. Splitting off from washing machine should be doable (thanks)! It's the draining that I'm concerned about. Any unique suggestions for log draining setup?

It will keep your sump nice and clean too.

Been using it since the 80's... ;Oldman

By draining do you mean the rodi waste water? If so, is there a drain pipe where the washing machine water goes down? If so, slide the waster water line in there.
