So there's an apartment I'm looking to get but it's on the second floor. My only concern is putting a 75 gallon tank plus 75 pounds of rock up there without any issues. I have read a few things about putting the tank across the joists? Is that something that I would need to do or dors it not really matter? The building is new. Within a few years old. I know I don't have like building blue prints or whatever for you to look at to get a better idea of what I'm working with but just give me a educated guess here.

I put a 90 gallon on my second floor house. No problem for me.

Had a 72 and 110 upstairs at the same time, in the same room. It will be on at least 2 joists if they're perpendicular, or completely supported if they run parallel with the tank.

I have a 90 gallon on a second floor apt. No issues and I check the leveling every month.

I agree. Running a 90 on second floor here. With a 14 gallon fuge and 10 gallon water volume in sump. About 150# rock total. (Apartment as well)

Engineer here, errr well engineering student :D......structurally speaking yes because of the way the floor joists are run in apartment buildings and the length of the tank as others have said you will be fine. I would advise putting it against a wall as opposed to doing a peninsula as the joists will flex the least at the point they are joined to the wall.

A 75G tank weighs less than 4 large guys sitting at a table. When tanks are put up against the wall, like they almost always are, it becomes even less of a concern.

Check your lease carefully. They may prohibit you from having an aquarium. Or any other pets for that matter.

Why you gotta rain on my parade my friend?

Lol I'm just kidding with you. I asked the lady when I toured one of there apartments and basically she said you can have a tank but anything that happens you're responsible for the repairs.

no issues I'm doing a 90 gallon upstairs in my new house that is in line with my 1000lb gun safe, talked to my framer he said no issue I could park a small car in the room if I wanted lol.......so your probably good to go!
