Lol! You obviously haven't been up to date with all the animals they have killed for rushing the tanks, They stock to fast and they overstock every tank they build,And yes we can get a tank cycled quicker with good liverock but it's not always as fast as 2 weeks and you don't want my opinion on bacteria in a bottle lol we just won't go there.

Prove how many they have killed!! Where are you getting your information? Or is this something you read somewhere?

How Dare you DISS Spinal TAP :)

Tanked is to reef keeping as Guy Fieri is to fine cooking, as Paul Junior is to Harley Davidsons, as Spinal Tap to rock and roll, as Morgan David is to fine wine, as Prego is to a fine all-day-long homemade ragu, and so forth and so on. It's a novelty. A semblance. I watch it sometimes, but with distain mostly. LOL

The only thing I hate is all the fake crap...it makes the tank look stupid and they always over populate which ticks me off

but then again, you have to look at their clients...they go after big companies who know nothing about SW so a fish only tank works for them

The do acclimate the fish and use real sea water/live sand, I also don't think big companies would pay thousands of dollars to have multiple dead fish in the first couple days. There has to be something they are using

We did a survey on another forum I participate in and many from the Las Vegas area and other locals reported on aquariums that were shown on Tanked. In some cases the aquarium livestock looked okay, but in other cases the aquariums had been scraped or all the livestock was gone. A good example was the outdoors bubble gum tank, in Las Vegas weather, it didn't have a chance.

I guess I feel like the guys who build real motorcycles that use to watch American Choppers. I appreciate the skill needed to build these displays, but the theme part of it makes it seem like the whole system is just a big decoration. Maybe that's all any aquarium is, but loading it with plastic shoes and running skate boards over it makes it all seem silly.

They are fantastic tank builders. I loved the double koi ponds they built for the NFL player. Best build they have ever done.

That said I don't see how I can look at their stocking list and how they set up the tanks and defend them. They do use NSW and live sand (in the tanks that have sand) but editing does not belie the fact that they assemble, fill and stock the tank usually in the same day. They evidently depend heavily on mechanical and chemical filtration not biological. Maybe you experienced guys can explain how they can do that, especially with the large number of fish they stock with.
I would love to have one of their tanks but I would sure want them to install the tank and leave the rest to me.

love the show,im just happy they got a show about our hobby.I don't really agree about there practices but like has been said we don't know what goes on behind the scenes.
I hope they make many more episodes and have many seasons to come.

Oh, lovely...yet another of these threads.

I think they make very interesting tanks. I'm not going to bash on the inserts, as while I love real I know there are those who can't handle or simply don't want the live stuff. HOWEVER, their stocking is absolutely atrocious, especially in fresh water (and no, goldfish are NOT adapted to smaller bodies of water as they say. They actually have rather large bioloads and die incredibly young in small, unfiltered tanks.) They take care of the nitrifiers with a bacterial additive, which is not a bad thing, but they do overstock - and they put different fish together that have NO business being with each other. A few in particular I've seen have sickened me. If they got a stocking specialist on staff to at least advise them, instead of choosing willy-nilly as they see fish they like or that fit a theme, I would feel much better about the show and the company in general. I do watch it, but sometimes I want to wring their necks.

There was an article on it but I forget where. :/ The Applebee's tank in particular was something of a disaster.

National Geo has Fish Tank Kings. On that show they have a in house biologist, Francis, that they tease on camera constantly. But at least he knows his fish. They did, against their wishes, a real living reef on one show and it came as close to reality as anything I've seen on TV.

My last comment is that most of us that have been in the hobby realize that picking fish for their color and disregarding the ability of that fish to prosper in that environment is a recipe for disaster. And yes, call me a purist, but putting a skeleton or a stuffed dog in the aquarium makes me crazy.

Yes that's it i have seen every show i just don't agree with what they do with the fish and the fake inserts of coral and rock.

How about the other show? I remember seeing another tank building show on TV before....just can't recall the name? I believe they built the aquarium where the Miami Marlins play.

I'd like to add, I watch Tanked. Not a big fan of it, but I rather watch a show that has some kind of marine fish in it than nothing. Just like BBQ pitmasters, staged to the core, but some BBQ is better than nothing.

Are you sure that is one of theirs?
Pretty sure.

Tanked on Animal Planet! | We're All Wet

It's also in the original story link, but that was quoted from an employee. My link is from Animal Planet's advertisement. However, they built the "peanut shaped tank by the bar" but the video looks like a standard round tank with tables around it. Never been there, so I don't know if there are multiple tanks there.
