Still waiting for my new nitrate and phosphate test kits. Nitrate will be Red Sea and phosphate Hanna ULR. First time the tank has had consistent readings since I switched fully over to AquaForest. I may loose most of my 6 SPS frags but I'm hoping they bounce back. Got my GHL doser ordered which should help tremendously with stability. Due for a WC this weekend.

Do you only have red slime or any other type. Use vibrant it will get rid of the red slime quickly. I used it and it works fine...

What the tank look like? We could probably tell what is going on, just by looks

All Acros have not showed any polyp extension in a while. One is showing bleaching at the base. Two others just palling and one has STN at its base. My birdsnest I can see the coralites but no extension and it has some bleaching. My stylophora is still colored well and I can make out the polyps but they are not extended. My hammer is happy no issues. My Heliopora is looking okay, not as happy as usual but had good polyp extension yesterday.

Good morning Jesse, went back two to three pages to figure out what it going on with your system. From what I am reading, you are having alk issues, of keeping them steady correct.

What kit are you testing with?

Your using reef salt or probiotic salt?

What are you dosing for the alk? component 2+, kalwasser?

Yes that I believe was the big issue. Over the last two weeks since starting the components alk swung from 8 dkh to probably way higher because I was dosing 160mL of each component for a few days. I was trying to bump it up using the components (user error). I had been dosing 80mL of BRS two part daily to keep my alk at 8 dkh. I now have stability using the components for the last 3 days, alk is steady at 7.0 dkh dosing 40mL split into two doses. 20mL in the morning then 20mL at night. Testing has always been done with the same Red Sea test kit. I don't dose kalkwasser. While we were in the hospital having our baby I had my brother dose the tank. I had him do 20mL daily. Alk dropped down to 6.7. When we got home in Thursday I used some BRS 2 part to bump it back up to 7. Has been steady at 7 since then. Once my doser arrives I will split the 40mL dose into 4 doses over 24 hours. For now I'm just gonna keep going as is. I test all parameters every morning, and see how things go.

@fragit Congratulation on the new arrival again. Sound like you have things under control. Now it the anguish of sitting back and letting things recover. Once the doser arrives life will get much easier and even more consistent with the auto doser. I just switch to 4 daily doses and I am testing this morning.

Got my Hanna ULR today got a reading of 3ppb. So I believe to covert to phosphate I need to do the following... (3x3.044)/1000=0.009 for phosphate. Can some one confirm?

So I just read another post where it was suggested to multiply by 3.066. Just ran the test again because I dumped out some reagent in the counter accidentally the first time. This time reading was 7x3.044/1000= 0.02 or 7x3.066/1000= 0.02 so same answer. I also tested my nitrates with a Red Sea pro kit and got a definitive 0.0. Some my nutrients are out of wack. I can't figure out why... I have 3 fish and have been feeding 3 times a day. First is to cut back on ProBio S.

Also so you don't need to do the math each time you do your phosphorus test. Google "Hanna phosphorus conversion" and go to the images table and print out one of the charts and put it in the pocket of your test kit. Makes it so much easier!

3 of my 5 SPS frags are all but toast. Lots of tissue necrosis. They are still hang in there in some spots but I fear the worst. The other 2 I just can't tell yet what they are doing. My Heliopora and Hammer are doing fine. I think my alk swings from when I started the full lineup and the 0.0 nitrates were just too much. I decided to remove my filter sock. And cut my ProBioS dose in a third so rather than the recommended 6 drops I'm going down to 2 in an effort to drive up nitrates. Hopefully that helps what remains recover. If not it's not a huge loss. It was a $20 frag pack. I just always hate to kill livestock especially over something so basic. Stupid mistakes make me remember that despite having 15 year under my belt reefing, I am not infallible. Dumb mistakes can happen, and lack of focus in the details can ruin you.

Im in the process of gathering all my goodies to build my new 90gal corner overflow. I just got my new skimz sp34 sump and a vertex omega 150. Im looking for advice on my sump build as i plan to use the life bio fill if we ever get it in the states. The sump has a 5x14" fuge section where i was planing to place the life bio fill and maybe a bio block. I currently run live rock and cheto in my sump now but im not planing to use it in the new setup. I will also have a carbon and gfo reactor in the new sump or should i go with the zeao,carbon and gfo? Thanks for your help and i look forward to your comments.

That is a tough one for us to answer here in the US, I would go ahead and putting in a media tray for the life bio fil. As far as carbon and GFO that is going to be a system by system choice. @Perry has messing with the Life bio fil and could tell you more. I would like to get a sample to play with

Hey guys and gals, I was just reading a thread about whether or not folks use refugiums or not. I do, always have and always will. I want a place for pods to populate. Anyway folks were talking about Cheato and how it sucks up nutrients. I am having a nitrate issue in that I have 0, and can't seem to get them up. Phosphates are 0.02. I do have Chaeto in my fuge, would you suggest pulling it? I also have some caluerpa in there which has been growing slow.

I have not been able to keep cheato alive while on AF. Pretty sure most people are on the same boat, due to the tank being ULNS.
