Is it necessary to run media such as Siporax or Matrix in order for the probiotic method to work. Or is live rock and sand sufficient enough?
Some run the Siporax and Matrix, I run Life Bio Fil

Can you just use the af salt mix without ask the af additives and just perform regular wc? And maybe run a calc reactor ?

Cheers,
Alex
Yes, just remember the more corals that you add the more water changes one has to make.

...hey guys after 6 month start my new system i have in at least 75% on my live rock this " thing " , i posted my frustrating problem and the worse i dont know how can fixed...
This tank its a 75g " aquaforest " 100%, from day 3-5 this " thing" appear and still there...i start with af probiotic reef salt and pro bio for ciclying , i replace the probiotic because the people said for start better af reef salt and change later for af probiotic...i have around 25 acros and a few zoantids. I keep low nutrient i use red sea pro test kits
Alk-8
Cal - 430
Mag- 1400 (dose manual)
No3 - now 0.5
No4 - 0.3 - 0.6

I dose exactly like af recomended , coral build, energy, coral v and amino mix trough dosing pump alk and calc.

I run a dual brs gfo and carbon reactor
Skimmer reef oct. Classic 150 int
I make 30% water change each 2 weeks
And stopped with the carbon dose pro bio s and np pro

I start using a af component 1,2,3 it was amazing but stopped again because the "thing" start grow again... this its the most frustrating happen to me .... a lot a people said diferent oppinions...algae , bacteria bloom ...and the true..??? I dont know what to do... this " thing" its in the base like a mocus dark brown and no way to remove with any brush manually..and have a short like 1/4 inch betwen white and grey filaments its crazy but this happens to me ...
Please can somebody say something...

I need a help please!!!

Looks like algae but slimy kind. Few questions..

Q1. Is your PO4 0.3 to 0.6??? If so you need to lower it or increase NO3 levels.

Q2. What you feed?

Q3. Why you stopped component 123? It has nothing to do with the algae.

Do you use ABEV for dosing?

I agree with @Anirban with the questions.

My story:rolleyes: I had the same thing going on at about six months of setting up my current system, and before I switched over to AF. I treated the algae with a carbon product and it went away in about 4 weeks. I like were @Anirban is going with this, thinking your nutrients are high.

Thanks for the prompt reply friends .... I understand it is a bit confusing that I have named something, some say it is some kind of algae some kind of bacteria ... the truth is that I do not understand anything, this system was released with Dead rock, from brs, let it cure before starting to cycle the tank from day one, everything has been done as expected, step by step and without any problems ...
My phosphates the maximum I could read a day was 0.6 but for several months the nitrates were undetectable, I thought I had to do with this probiotic salt and the use of carbon from (pro bios and np pro) never managed to raise my no3, I thought it was normal, many told me that the system being new needed to stabilize ...
I am not giving much food, at least once a week I give a cube of frizada food, and every day only once I give pellets "new life spectrum", a little more than a month once a week I prepare in The night food for the corals (roods food, zoo plan and reef chilli) I shut down the whole system and for about 1 hour, after that I'm teaching my circulation pump, and then 2 hours later I start the whole system ...
I had to stop dosing component 1,2,3 because this "thing" started to grow again ... and the truth remained "imprecise how well this method improved aquaforest bailling ... super stable and only dosed 40 ml each in 8 time a day each one ....
i Remove this component 1,2,3 and put back only the regular alkalinity and calcium ... I understand that this will not have to see but something is happening that if for certain something stimulates its growth .... comence af probiotic and I had it That leave and start using af reef salt, I had to stop using "pro bio sy np pro and also started with component 1,2,3 and also had to stop using everything thanks to this" thing "
I am currently using af coral build, energy, coral v and amino mix, along with the daily dose of alk and calc through dosing pump, af gfo and carbon , my skimmer and a refugium in my sump ... that's all

please guys ....make me a " miracle "
i need the key!!!!

Oh dear,
You dont need a miracle but all you need to understand the whole process inside out. Its a balance you need to create by using all the different part of the process. So, lets start....

1. The salt .....reef salt is fine for now.

2. Nutrients...you can not create a nice system with 0.6 PO4 and 0 NO3. You need few changes..first change GFO very frequently like after every 2 weeks and use small amount every time. Second, you can dose potassium nitrate and try to keep the NO3 level in between 5-10. The probiotic bacteria will now use this NO3 and the available PO4 to produce skimmable biomass. This slowly will bring down PO4. We need it in between 0.01-0.04ppm. Also, stop dosing amino and energy. Keep dosing NP pro and Pro bio S as recommended.

3. I am still not clear why you stopped dosing 123 but its your wish. Your so called "this thing" has nothing to do with balling method but possibly the nutrient imbalance.

What you have in refugium and is that thriving? Refugium generally does not go well with ULNS system and can cause issues. So, take care of that too.

Yes, just remember the more corals that you add the more water changes one has to make.

Thank you for the information. I like to allow the salt mix to do the work of replacing the elements in my nano tanks so as to not get an imbalance going on. Bad things can happen very quickly in small tanks. And for my larger tanks I like to keep it simple. Mix up saltwater and then have a calc reactor and the such without having to do a lot of dosing of unnecessary products such as those new proB etc.

Cheers,
Alex

Water change is the best way out for nano tank. For a larger tank Ca reactor is fine but AF is full balling so it supplements all needed without water changes. AF actually comprises two main component ...full balling method and probiotics. So, you can follow one without using the other.

I am really happy, with all this information given by you, for all your time and your knowledge ...
In fact I stopped using component 1,2,3 because I saw that this "thing" began to thrive once more .. think that maybe one of its components would favor its growth, so and nothing else stop using it and continue as they say With "old school", just dosing alk, calcium and mag ... so you say this does not have to see ...
I do not know why the no4 thrives and not the no3, I know that I have not done much food, because the pellets I only give them once a day and because they all eat, but they do not fall to the ground I only have one yellow tang medium, 3 premiun Snowflake clowns and three blue damsels, the corals have color, but I'm sure they are a bit pale, my lights are a kessil ap700 and as supplemental light retrofix 2x39w blue + ati bulbs ...
-How is the best way to upload the No3 ??
- would it seem good to remove the kelp from my fuse?, I really do not see much progress ??
- My crystals every two days, I have to clean them because they take a film of seaweed?
- because the po4 increases and the no3 does not stabilize ???
### remneber my system only have 6 month now ####

Thank you, thank you very much for your good advice here I am waiting attentive !!!!

1. Your dry rock and possibly some of your food has PO4 and this will take time to get out of the system. So, as I said earlier frequent GFO change, increasing NO3 artificially by adding potassium nitrate will help
2. Stop amino and energy
3. You can take out the kelp

Very true indeed. Wc and excellent husbandry is what is necessary to run nano tanks. I've run nano tanks since 2002. When they were just starting to show up in the reef aquarium community.

Alex
