Again, the numbers on the printed sheet included in the box aren't even in the same ball park as what I'm testing. Mag is still >1500. Cal is right at 500, and Alk 8.5.. All with a salinity right at 1.026 which is slightly higher than what the data sheet was measured at so I'd expect a little higher than stated in the box but certainly not off the charts.

I had the same, Mg 1550 & Ca 550 @35ppt - returned it
Mine was manufactured Aug 2016 - There's UK guys with manufacture dates right thru to Jan 2017 with the same issue

Is it possible to use the components 1,2,3 with another brands salt mix?

You ever hear the saying " The proof is in the Pudding" ?? Quick cell pick...

Huh maybe they missed it??

I've never bought the box and I'm not sure if they even come with one. I've always bought mine in the buckets.

My box did have a quality control sticker with someone's initials hand written, so I'm sure they tested that batch

Using the 4kg mag bucket it says to mix with calcium? Is that right?

Can you elaborate on the question a little more? Are you asking if you need to mix the bucket together? No. Are you asking if you can mix the two together in you salt mix to dose the system? Yes.

I read the instructions and it says

Dissolve 10 g of the product (magnesium) and 50 g of Calcium Aquaforest in 1000 ml of deionized water.

My question was if the magnesium only works if you mix if with the calcium? If not then how do you mix it?

You can mix them separate or together. Are you mixing components 1+ for dosing ? You just do not want to mix or dose Mg and Alk when dosing, the alk will cancel the Mg

AF tank

No I haven't been using the component 1+. I've been using liquid esv alk, Cal and mag but I'm looking to switch over to aquaforest as it seems like a more affordable line.

I was looking at buying the mag 4kg bucket of aquaforest but I read those instructions. The lfs I was at just started carrying them so the owner was a bit confused as well.

The Mg will work alone but all of these aquaforest product line are made to achieve a full balling dosing solution. So, thats why its suggested to mix with Ca. If you really want to use the AF products in full potential then I will suggest using them as a full balling solution.

BRS has refunded me for the AF salt. Probably moving on to Red Sea salt mix (blue bucket) or HW, basically anything that has stable numbers since I'd like to stick with the comp123 for dosing.
