BRS has refunded me for the AF salt. Probably moving on to Red Sea salt mix (blue bucket) or HW, basically anything that has stable numbers since I'd like to stick with the comp123 for dosing.

Cool - i also pushed for refund & moving to r/s blue bucket, pretty obvious their parameter sheets mean nothing & i feel their salts just a ticking time bomb as their not even recognizing they have somewhere a mixing issue. Its not like its just a 1 month bad batch.

I had the same, Mg 1550 & Ca 550 @35ppt - returned it
Mine was manufactured Aug 2016 - There's UK guys with manufacture dates right thru to Jan 2017 with the same issue

This was included in my new salt. I did a test last night and Ca > 500 (API, Salifert) and Mg was >= 1500 (Salifert) at 35ppm. The mix had been sitting for 4 days in a container. I will make it fresh tonight and double check. Not a good feeling in my stomach thou. This was from a BRS order about a month ago.

Yep the "feel good" QC sheet don't mean nothing...i also spread my salt out amongst 4 containers & remixed but got the same out of whack results.

I quit using AF salt after the second bucket with Mag reading >1600 and yes I mixed the dry salt by rolling the bag on the floor for a good 10 minutes.

Have any of you guys mixed up a batch using 10L of water, 390g at a salinity of 34 ppt and see if it matches the sheet??

It seems most folks are mixing the salinity stronger than what the certification says.

This might be part of the issue??

Ca/Mg does increase with higher salinity, but it shouldn't go from 413 -> 520 with 34 to 35ppm. I can't find that salinity chart handy. In my particular case, let me make it fresh and re-test. If it is high, I'll buy IO and mix the two to get the numbers I need. I regret hijacking this thread of beautiful tanks and I don't want to hijack this thread too much more. But it's one of those cases where you can only hear about an issue so much before you worry. The ideal way for these things to be handled is to say lot xyz had an issue and fixed in lot abc+, otherwise the issue just lingers. I'll create a new thread with my results tonight.

Actually I'm not that concerned about it really. Considering all the thousands of users around the world to have a handful that have had some issues isn't surprising and not a deal breaker for me. I personally haven't had any issues . My last sheet results were at 33ppt so I find it interesting that it does vary, but I think most take it for granted that the numbers they are reading are for 1.026 when they are not.

What I'm doing is using the reef salt with pro bio s and np pro (I think that's what it is called) and my spa have changed 10 fold since I have switched... my blue sps are brighter my purple acros are darker my greens a more vibrant ...love this system by far the best system I've tried. I have had no issues with my salt and I'm on my second box of salt, I don't but the buckets

I will need little idea about your system status specially nutrient levels and nutrient control techniques. What stuffs you exactly got?

I also use af power food three times a week ;)) pro bio f has bacteria source included unlike pro bio s.
I think you mean to say Pro bio F contain bacteria food source with bacteria unlike Pro bio S which contain only bacteria.

The pros will help you out, but just a friendly FYI that their product guide is pretty nice. It's simple, yet describes a few different styles of tanks and the products that support them.

It doesn't tell you exactly how many times to dose. And some other things.
