From my own personal experience when your tank is fairly young then the pro bio s and np pro usually keep things under control. As your tank matures and you add more fish etc the phos minus helps / assist the pro bio s and np pro .
 
It really has to do with your bio load. If your like me then you like to keep a lot of fish etc then both will allow you to keep a heavily stocked tank. [emoji4]

  • No refugium is my sump but you can have one. AquaForest is a bacterial program that works well.

  • I run Hydra 26 hd's over my tank and really like LED's

  • That is going to be a awesome build.:)

Yes I have a refugium area that is packed with Spiorax.

I'm running MH /T5 combo 2x250watt giesemann 20k and 4 x54watt ATI .

Dp-4 dosers, Bulletproof EuroReef skimmer circa 1999.

If I was going to replace my skimmer .... which I never will lol I'd probably go with either a Reef octopus, or and MRC. Maybe a Deltec??
 
So I tested my nitrates today still 20. How effective is the probiotic dosing I'm doing?

Again, I defer to the pros. A friendly FYI on my recent ProBioS experience is that NO3 may not drop linearly. It may not go 20..15..10. When I was expecting 10ppm, I measured 3ppm. Many factors were in play with my system (a new maturing system, new frags, etc.), so I can't say it was ProBioS. But I did not expect my NO3 to collapse like that. This was on week 3 or so of ProBioS usage

In case you are referring me as one of the pros then I should put a scientific disclaimer for at least myself. I have never seen any linear correlation between dosing any kind of probiotics including Pro Bio S and decrease in NO3 amount. For example if someone feed their 30 G system with 3 fish 2 times a day with one cube of frozen food and claim that the probiotics are not lowering the NO3 or PO4 then its little hard to understand right. Also, any kind of probiotic system need a lot of substrate for housing the probiotics which will slowly turn into nice biological filter but they need time to get established.

I just meant you and @120reefkeeper are far more familiar with AF product line. Every tank is different and many variables are at play, but I was just trying to advise @domination2580 that things take time, keep testing, because something that may not seem to be working, then suddenly is. The impact of starting something like ProBioS is likely measured in weeks rather than day 3.

There are few people around who are very experienced in AF. Like Perry, Debora, Gary and Jsker who are using it for quite long time and have great results. As far I understand and remember @domination2580 is using it longer than 3 days but as he does not have enough surface media to house a lot of probiotic bacteria it will take longer for the process to start working efficiently.
