Hi mate, i have 200gal of actual water circulating throughout the system. This is just my take on the AF so far.

At the moment i use AF carbon and phos minus run in mesh bags in the sump baffles - 300ml in each bag changed monthly. I'm going to increase the amounts to 500ml next change but i need to get more supplies of both first.

I use the AF alk, calcium and Mg to keep my basic levels, i like how clean and free of crud they are when dissolved compared to bulk additives i've used and they're just as cheap so it's a no brainer for me. I use KCL for potassium but i'm going to start using the AF potassium supplement when i get some.

I have 15L of matrix in the sump which is kept very clean of detritus via a 100 micron sock feed but i want to add another 5L of bio media so i can add lots more fish so i'm going to get the life bio fil this time as it is basically pre loaded with a bacteria population as i understand it and as such it should start contributing to nutrient control much faster than dry matrix which takes about 3 months to kick into gear from my experience.

I dose 3 drops of pro bio s just before the matrix bed each morning and night but i don't have any np pro so i want to get some of that to use with it. It still works a treat from what i've seen even without the carbon source to fuel it so the np pro should increase the effectiveness of my pro bio s drops in theory - more bang for my bacteria buck.

Every night after i turn the lights off i dose 1 drop of AF aminos and 2 drops of AF vitamins - these two are the two AF things to get if you can only pick two. Unless you are running a full on ULNS pastel display with your water stripped clean of nearly everything - don't dose either of these two at the rec doses or you'll be overdosing and see cyano and or rampant algae growth especially from the aminos.

That's it so far, Dave who owns my LFS sent me a text last night saying he was going to stock up on AF supplies today in case i wanted anything in particular,

' just get me more of what i use please Dave, oh and get me ALL the micro elements, ALL the supplements and coral foods, the new test kits and a big bucket of bio fil '

' Uhhhhh ok i'll see how i go '

What does that mean, ' i'll see how i go '............ like he just has to go to the AF guy and say biggles wants this and this and this, he doesn't have to hack his way through a jungle first........ ' will do ' was the reply i was looking for tbh.........

No idea if Dave will get me anything now i think about the whole ' see how i go ' thing........ sorry, was thinking out loud.
 
Added half the 5L bucket of life bio fil to the sump with the matrix today, bit cloudy in the display for an hour but cleared up quick with a 100 micron sock. Making a couple of plastic mesh baskets for the rest to go in tomorrow out of rain tank leaf filters. These will fit snugly between a couple of baffles just before the return :)

Are you saying if people are running a ulns they should not dose vitamins and aminos at the recommended dose but actually use less? I haven't heard of any issues of cyano or anything like that except for users that have a fair amount of readable nutrients in their water. I have been able to use abve daily and even past the recommended dose but I built up over a bit of time to get to that point. Every tank is different though :)

I have a quick question for those using the Components 123. Is anyone having their component one settle out? I keep getting some substance at the bottom of my dosing container

Component 1 yes, brown colour from iron precipitation. I give it a shake every couple of days.
 
Yes, At first I was alarmed. As the above stated not a issue.
