Vat is sealed , the debris is from when i first make the salt , use of filter socks removes the debris, definitely not bacteria. What's the difference of mixing salt in container and putting in tank via awc, your saying there is some kind of bacteria in the salt? What causes the rank smell ? It also goes away after a day of mixing? Just say I don't know, instead of assuming I'm not smart enough to know if the debris came pollen or something besides the salt, do you really think some one would leave there awc vat open to elements and such, did you look at the pics, did you here where I said I've been threw 10 boxes, what causes the algae bloom , in 0 tds rodi water, fresh salt mix sealed, what does probolic mean anyways, what makes it so different than other brands, other brands can be used like this, I'm confused about the shelf life of freshly mixed sw, please explain..

I have no idea what the debris is. I'm not there to see exactly what it could be. [emoji4]I know that this is not normal for the salt. This is why I'm asking so many questions.... to help you. [emoji4]

The Probiotic salt does contain bacteria in the salt. This is why it's supposed to be used within the time frame I posted above.

I've never assumed anything my friend. I'm trying my best to answer your questions, but obviously I have to ask a lot of questions due to the fact that I'm not there with you. [emoji4]

I'm pleased that your happy with the salt but I'm also trying to understand why your having some issues with it. That's all new to me .... I've never seen this before with any of their salts.

What can cause an algae bloom like that??? Great question. Maybe you could ask Randy Holmes Farley in the chemistry forum. He might lead you to an answer on that one.

Please do me a favor if you would. If you find out what information your looking for please let me know.

That explains the smell, I had no idea this salt has bacteria in it that explains all, thank you, that means there is also a shelf life on unmixed salt in raw form, the smell must be decay from dead bacteria from old salt, I buy in bulk, and the boxes will sit for months before opening, maybe the heat hear effects it, also explains algae bloom ,from dead bacteria..this needs addressed from manufacturers, and it seems you don't fully understand it either..or you would have picked up on when I said it smelled, that should be a big light build on bacteria..imo

Oh I did pick up on it. I was not aware that you had purchased the Probiotic salt and did not assume you did. [emoji4]

The salt unopened will be fine. The problem comes in if it's not used within the 24 hour time frame once it's mixed. [emoji4]

Kenneth I am still not sure which salt you are using from the above conversation. There are two salts reef salt or probiotic salt which people generally use. The reef salt is just a regular salt mix like other salts but probiotic one contains bacteria (thats why probiotic) and amino acids so you can not store that salt mix for long as amino acid will degrade overtime and your PO4 and NO3 will rise. On the other hand bacteria are pretty stubborn so they will survive but can give you a bloom. But with the reef salt there should not be any such issues.

Please explain why new sw mix has to used in 24 hours? Even if it has amino, and bacteria, does the bacteria die? What happens to it when it sits?
No the bacteria stays but amino degrades and it feeds the bacteria.

The NP pro and ABVE can be started at any time, my suggestion with growth and pure food would be to state with half a dose twice a week then see how the system reacts. link for growth boots
